Not meaning any disrespect, but are you for real?

You actually expected to be home all the time when rolling with an OTR company?

Just please, I beg you, PLEASE, do not join PATT or one of those other kooky "safety" groups and try to shorten our work day. I like it just fine the way it is. Any time someone gets a bee in their bonnet to mess with our hours or add some other regulation, it costs us money. Just because one person cannot handle the hours we routinely do, doesn't mean those of us out here can't.

Yes, it is a lifestyle change that many can't deal with. Those with an honest bone in their bodies do not try to lay blame on others for what they had a hard time with. It appears you are accepting responsibility for what went wrong. For that, you have my respect.

I certainly understand the age thing, having been passed over for a job because of age myself.

But sooner or later, you have to realize that standing still doesn't solve the problem.

There are many jobs I'm qualified for, on a national level. But, I'm limited in my choices due to the "glamor" effect and appeal of larger cities to the younger generation.

In the end, you stand still or move. And you generally accept a cut in pay when you move. A simple move can reduce your cost of living by up to 50%. Which allows you to reduce your income needs.

    Hard choices I know....

My wife has a job now so I can be a stay at home dad for awhile. I am enrolling in some data base classes hopefully to get a job with the State of California, I am also beginning to learn I-Phone programming and I hope to produce some I-Phone applications and Android applications that I can make some money on. I will probably also get a passenger endorsement and perhaps drive a hotel/airport/school bus around for some pocket change.

I missed home more than I expected I would. I have no intention of joining any group to change anything. I realized the job was not for me after I did it for about 6 weeks, but many others are happy doing it. If I had my own truck, I'm sure some things would have been better, but there would still be too many negatives with the job for me. I took the job, tried it and found out it was not for me. I don't blame Werner, my trainers, or the rules of trucking. It was fairly simple, I tried it, didn't like it, and when my wife got a job right before I would test out to get a truck it seemed the stars were aligned properly form me to gracefully quit.
