I have a dell latitude D830 it comes with a serial port, last laptop to come like that. Its a couple yrs old so used ones should be easy to find. I need it to run audio equipment (DBx driverack, XTA processors, etc) for concert set ups, the usb to serial adaptors crash a lot.

I use the Nexiq USB Link in my shop. Our trucks have C-13 Acerts, DD13s, and MBE4000s in them. Looking at the specs of it, this will handle most any software. The Blue Tooth feature is nice as well.

I have Volvo adapter (nexiq does not support before '98 European Volvo), Cummins in-line, Mercedes Star Diagnos and other tools for MAN, Renault, Iveco and other EU stuff

Dell Latitudes are very common because of the serial port. The Tough Book is good as well, just for the toughness. I have a Latitude, the shop computer is a tough book. The latitude is faster, but wouldn't handle the knocking around that most mechanics inflict on them. Most modern connection devices are USB now, Nexiq being the most popular is a good choice. For the basics, it's hard to beat something like PF Diagnose, for the money.

If you need more, factory software is the only way to go, if you can get it. Many programs are only available through a dealer sponsorship and only given to bigger fleets or really good customers. If you can get them, they are $$$.

    just do it Thanks this.
