I must admit I drive on a dedicated account for Us xpress (but not for long leaving to another company). I cant tell you how much I advise you NOTTTT to go here. You get no respect from the dispatchers, you have to fight, kick and scream to get miles even when the freight is good, their maintance on their trucks are horrible so don't be suprised when your stuck sitting at a shop. If you do leave usx, and give them warning of it,they will try and ruin your career by trying to force you to abondon your truck and putting it on your dac report. If you decide to not abondon your truck you get charged with unauthorized deadhead. You constantly have to watch your paycheck as your dispatch will not sometimes authroize your detention, layovers, or any extras. God forbid you have a rear end accident wether it's your fault or not you WILL be put on perminate suspension. They woulnt fire you b/c they would have to pay you unemployment. But I wish you a lot of luck.. Averit is the much better way to go.

I just got out of training and I am waiting for my truck with Averitt, so far so good! This is my first trucking job. I have heard from other drivers that the miles are low the first couple of weeks until you get in the groove.

I would go with Averitt, I have heard some bad things about US Express, and I have seen their trucks running every weekend, I have been home 5 weekends in a row for at least 48 hours!:biggrin_255:

I know this isn't the exact place for this, but it couldn't think of anywhere else to ask. Does anyone have any info on Sal-Son? Please get back at me.

The city jobs are golden.I worked the city for Averitt for 16 years and had no complaints and excellent money.I transferred to shuttle 2 weeks ago and wish i had done this many years ago. This is the easiest money anyone could ever make. The only negative thing i can say about city and shuttle is that seniority doesn't matter in the city but shuttle it does. After i transferred to shuttle i have to run it for one year and since i've been with them for 17 years, after the first year my seniorty is effective and with 4 shuttle drivers now ahead of me they will roll to the bottom of the list.Every six months you can rebid on what run you want.I would encourage anyone who wants to move to the city/shuttle to do it.You always have people who want to poor mouth a company due to not being hired for tickets or not running enough miles etc.....Averitt does push the image issue but it's not a bad thing,i've noticed a lot of companies that don't care how their employees look, but it just says that much more about Averitt.Well just wanted to share my input on the issue.

I got hired by Averitt about 3 weeks ago. I went to orientation and finished. Went back home over the weekend. Originally I wanted a shuttle job as I just came off the road. I'm wanting to stay close to home. I called that jobline of theirs and there was a shuttle job at my home terminal and we were told we could apply for any job posted on the job line so I did. Well not a reply at all. I spoke with the terminal manager at my home terminal only to be told I had no chance of getting it as someone who had senority was getting it, thanks alot I say.
During orientation I got a little ticked off about how staunch they were about appearance like one time some chick about half my age told me I needed to button my top button on my shirt. That's just a little too petty for me. My reply to her now is "#### off!" I'm a cleancut guy and rather bulky so I leave a button or two undone, but that's just plain rediculous.
No tatoos,no beards, no long hair, etc. Tatoos can't be showing. Uniforms only while driving Averitt equipment.

I felt like to work for Averitt, one must become assimulated like robots with no personal expression but just a machine that does the same thing every time. Sorry that's not for me.
I'm too much of a free spirit so I gave them the ax.
I suggest to anyone like myself to think very seriously before signing on with them if you are free spirited and became a truck driver for that freedom, you won't find it here. Another thing is autoshift trucks,,,,yuck! I'm a truck driver not a steering wheel holder. Most of the new hires are regional or over the road. Also, you can't take the truck home on your days off.

Now for some good things about Averitt from my point of view.
They paid me for orientation even though I didn't stay.
The company president came and met with us and shook hands with everyone, not something you'll find just anywhere wih a company of that size.
Nice people on the most part. Met some really nice people during orientation. They're heart is definately in their jobs, nothing wrong with that. They all seem happy there. Nice equipment to drive, aside from the autoshifts.
They get you home every week, they say weekends but that's open to interpretation.
    Nice uniforms.
Very good benefits after 90 days. There were many other good things but I think I've waffled on long enough.

One thing I stress about these guys is, make sure when you talk with your recruiter you get all your questions answered BEFORE you go to orientation like what you will be doing, regional or LTL etc. And how much you will be paid as I noticed my pay rate changed once in orientation. And there seemed to be a change as I'm fairly certain my recruiter told me I'd be doing LTL and somehow it mysteriously changed to regional once I got to orientation.

In the end, this may be the perfect place for some but not for me.
I found that nightly turnaround job I was looking for it just took a little more time. And they don't bust your chops if you have a beard or tats.
