I have a Freightliner Columbia 120 flat top and found a very nice used Headache Rack Cabinet for cheap. My question is, can I just put a tip on the exhaust below the cab and route it down to the ground? I would need to do this to make room for the cabinet. It would be easy to do but I'm not 100% sure its legal. Thoughts?

As long as it has a spark arrestor on it, there shouldn't be a problem.
Basically, you're converting it to a weed burner.

I drove one like that for a good while, lucky I have any hearing left and the fumes can get to you too. Never again!

I seen a new West Side Transport Cascadia the other day that had a factory exhaust routing turned to the ground, It had that big regen filter on it right under the sleeper and turned down at the back of the sleeper. I can understand a flatbed or car hauler, but a van company? There has to be some new benefit to it. Maybe because the exhaust is cleaner now?

Big companies only care about one thing ....if it saves them $50 a truck to not put a vertical exhaust that's what alot of them will do ...driver health is not a priority .....just how much the ceo can pad his bank account .....

Thanks for the input guys. I guess it was the fumes thing that I was curious about. I pull mostly step and hopper on and off the farm so clearance is also a factor in my decision. Thanks again!

The lease company is specifying new Cascadias with under slung exhaust. I don't think much of it, either.
