I obtained my CDL class A resently and as every one knows is very difficult to find a job at this very early stage.
A friend is going to allow me to drive his company truck, we are going as a team, but I'm doing it more for the training, I'm not going to get paid nore I'm employed with my friend's company.
The company's owner will know I'm going to be on the truck but I'm not sure if he's going to be ok with me driving but let's say, for the sake of the question, he is ok with me driving.

Will I be braking any law whatsoever by driving the truck?

I'm aware of the no passenger rule but my intention is to have a log book and as I said I have my CDL class A and my DOT medical.
I did some reading but I can't find much about this sircunstance, thanks.

You would have to be placed on the companys insureance to be legal. So no you can,t drive unless youre on the pay roll, plus for workers comp reasons, what happens if you wreck its automaticly your fault.

I can't imagine that this is really going to fly with the company. Because of insurance. If you are driving and are involved in an accident, the insurance will likely use that as an excuse to say "tough luck" to the employer. Most insurance companies have a clause that "illegal activity" is not covered.

I believe that it is not legal for you to drive that truck unless you are an employee. (No, I can't quote you chapter and verse on this.)

But the major drawback here will be insurance. On the rare chance that it IS ok with the company, (which will mean they are idiots,) you are likely putting yourself in line for big bucks lawsuit in case of a problem.

In other words, it just isn't worth it. Do it the right way. Get on their payroll, or find someone else who will put you on the payroll. That way you will be covered by insurance.

Also, working for free is just NOT a good idea. I know, you think that the training you receive will justify it. But what are you going to put on a job application when you do go look for a driving job?

"Yes, I can drive a truck. I've got 100,000 miles trucking experience under my belt. No, I've never been employed to drive a truck." It just isn't going to cut it.
