Ouch for me, I agreed to take a load to a mine out in the middle of no where. The rate paid fairly decent, and I was promised a back haul load out of that same mine.

Well, I got the load off, called the broker back for instructions on getting reloaded, since nobody at the mine knew what I was talking about. OF COURSE the broker breaks the bad news to me, your load was cancelled. Leaving me a several hundred mile dead head through crap mountain roads to get to the next big town.

Makes perfect sense right? A broker has trouble getting rid of a load because of its delivery location. So they promise a fictitious load to entice an O/O into making that run.

Well, I fell for it hook line and sinker. I have zero recourse since I have nothing in writing. Yet another HUGE life lesson learned by me.:biggrin_25523:

Big Don and heyns57 Thank this.

So, how could you ever foresee this or prevent this from happening in the future? or... is there no preventing and thats just how it goes sometimes?

By having the broker commit (on the load confirmation) that there is another load (not backhaul) that pays $xxxx and IF the load doesn't come to fruition he will in turn pay the carrier $yyyy.

Loads like that should pay double....So say you pull a load from LB port to Climax, CO...Climax is in BFE and about 12000' up....Say the load out is $2/M.....To get anywhere (That has loads) from Climax is at least 200 mile DH....On mountain roads....So listen up shippers and brokers...Loads that go to BFE should pay double or...They can just sit on the ground.....And btw...If you think you can get a NAFTA driver to run those loads like the cheap lumber ($1/m tarped) from the OR or WA mills...NAFTA drivers stay S/O 40 in the winter.....

Know the lane....Know that going to BFE 90% of the time won't be easy to get out of....

I have a direct customer that pays me $4K-$5K for his loads to BFE ND in the summer...Nothing leaves ND on a flat.....You need a step or lowboy....So his rate takes care of my DH....I usually have to go to Greybull, WY from the little BFE town in ND....

Yes and no.....You don't want to screw up so bad it Costs You!!!!!

Let's say a 'Boarder takes an OD load that is 15' Wide and the broker is paying what the 'Boarder thinks is great....If the 'Boarder doesn't account for permits and escorts and....Weather...They are screwed....

Read the freight agreements on those loads too...Sometimes in the small print....If you fail to deliver at the agreed time and place....You won't get paid the entire amount.....Weather and OD loads don't mix...Snow, rain, fog, and wind, will shut an OD load down in most states....Carriers are responsible to get that load to the receiver as promised.......Weather is no excuse or, so I have been told on more than one occasion.....
