WOW! I haven't even been near a McDonald's or Burger King in 11 years!
I won't touch the crap.
I stock up on groceries. I will only eat at a restaurant if I can get a balanced meal that isn't just canned veggied that soaked in corn syrup.
You want to feel better? Stop eating high fructose corn syrup. It's pretty much in everything, so it's a huge challenge and more expensive to eat well.
The payoff? You feel great and you don't have sloppy poops anymore. I poop like clockwork... usually once a day. It's nice to be able to sit and almost instantly drop a log and not have to wipe 400 times. I get in, I get out, I keep rolling
Not trying to be gross... just wanting to be helpful. This stuff is great for people like us that are always trying to keep moving.
Here is my typical day diet...
Wake up. Take a probiotic and wash it down with a Trader Joe's Iced Mocha (comes in a can and Trader Joe's stuff doesn't have added sugar or high fructose corn syrup)
After a few minutes (up to a half hour) I get my thermos out. The night before, I fill it with hot water at a truck stop. I use that water to make some Trader Joe's apples/cinnamon instant oatmeal... this stuff is so good, I often snack on it.
Lunch. I usually get good turkey or chicken lunch meat from an actual deli and actual good bread. It's expensive, but nowhere near as expensive as eating crappy food from a truck stop. Plus, you can eat in the truck!
I like Sara Lee bread and I usually get private selection lunch meats fresh at a Wal Mart deli. Not that nasty processed crap they sell in the packages in the cold section! ewwwww!!!!
Dinner? Usually another sandwich and I will eat at a restaurant if they have good food. I like grilled fish. I avoid red meat and greasy foods. I take vitamins and I do eat red meat sometimes, but not often. I keep it balanced.
I ALWAYS feel great when I follow my diet. I NEVER EVER EVER EVER drink soda. Diet soda is just as horrible as the regular... so don't bother.
I drink water and water mixed with either propel packet or Trader Joe's Pomegranate Cherry water mix packets.
I'm going to get a cooker so I can start preparing hot meals, as I really enjoy those. I wish I had an APU so I could really do things right, though!
Also... if you like ketchup as much as I do, try "simply heinz". You WILL notice the difference. No high fructose corn syrup in it!!
Why the high fructose corn syrup hatred? The human body can't really break it down. It has been proven to get stuck in random parts of the body and it will eventually burn holes in your intestinal tract.
I've had another driver try to tell me that there's no difference. He must be stupid, because within a week of eliminating it from my diet A LOT changed and all for the better.
I no longer get headaches. I no longer have problems sleeping. I no longer have random anxiety attacks or panic attacks.
I have been hospitalized for digestive issues. I know what I'm talking about. Ask a good doctor or nurse. They will back me up.
Plus, probiotics help your dupa stay regular, hence the pooping like clockwork.
Not only will you feel better, you will go home with more money when you wean yourself off crappy food and stop eating at restaurants that charge a bunch of money for cheap and overly-processed foods that do nothing but make you feel full for an hour and then cause you to blow a shart through your jeans 40 miles later.bikegoon, rocknsand, Motownfire and 2 others Thank this. -
another thing I do now... I sleep in 3 hour incraments. A friend of mine did research and told me that we sleep in 3 hour cycles. I try to sleep 6 or 9 hours a night and if I nap, I nap for 3 if I can. I don't know if it's true, but it seems to work good for me.
Not diet related, but it's another thing I'm trying to see if it further improves my life. -
I'd like to see some of your friends research. According to what I've learned at your age you can still reach beta sleep and you need it to refresh your mind. As we age our ability and need for beta sleep diminishes. A person does experience cycles of sleep throughout the night, but quality of rest and other factors determine the phase of sleep you reach and when more so than time to my understanding.
My advice as far as diet would be to determine how many calories you need and then buy foods that will fill those calories that are cheap and easy to store when on the road.
My average day of eating in my dorm room:
Mozzarella cheese stick and no carb protein shake for breakfast
Handful of natural almonds 2 hours later
Handful of natural walnuts hour and a half later
Pack of low sodium tuna and a tbl spoon of olive oil 2 hours later
Protein bar or protein shake along with a tbl spoon of palm oil 2 hours later
Raw broccoli and more tuna or I have some packaged chicken if I'm really hungry
I do take a multi-vitamin and supplements daily to make up for my limited diet
I don't generally enjoy what I eat, but I get all the calories I need and I can eat an entire month for 50 bucks. -
Good for you Smaggs, sounds like you got it right. You are right about the HFCS and diet soda, all crap. And the fast food joints, and we wonder why this is getting to be country of porkers.
Course I don't do OTR, so maybe I should stay outta this discussion. -
good posts... yeah I don't really know much about the sleep cycle thing. It's just something I'm testing for myself. We are all different... I'm only 31 so who knows what my true sleep needs are.
Rocknsand... don't have to drive OTR to avoid sloppy poop food. -
the days of a home cooked meals are gone, welcome to the new age trucker

You don't want to know what's in processed foods... especially processed "meat"
For starters, processed chicken is ground whole chickens. I think the only thing you're not getting is the beak.thecleaninglady Thanks this. -
Yeah, we raise our own pasture fed beef, chickens and a big garden, not to mention the apple, pear, peach and the new cherry trees. If it comes in a box it probably ain't good for you. Its all cook from scratch for us.
Guess I should not have just ate the dish of ice cream...Smaggs Thanks this.
