Taken from the link that Rookie posted.........
A half twist in the strap helps so that it doesn't loosen during transit.
By preventing the wind flap, flutter, humming or what ever your favorite term is.

In their photo of proper tie down it shows multiple straps with a half twist in them.
    I rest my case.

anyone used and/or have hard data between regular/cheaper straps and expensiver xtreme straps. I think xtreme straps are orange in color. where as other straps could be yellow, red, blue.

There are reasons to have multiple twists in a single strap.....but not in the same free span. Lets see, how can I explain this.......lets say you have two pallets of something in cardboard boxes, stacked high on the trailer and very light and crushable. The best way to secure these pallets with straps would be to put a twist on the side, another half twist over the top, and yet another on the opposite side. So technically the strap has three half twists in it. However, if you're seeing multiple twists in the same span, like on the side or top, there is no reason or advantage to this. Multiple twists are a sure sign of a lack of experience or attentiveness.

the sad truth is, A LOT of todays flatbedders DO NOT use the right equipment nor do they secure their loads properly....i have ranted about this before....that poor sherwin williams driver that died cuz a hay hauler was too lazy to secure his load properly and lost his front bales INTO THE CAB of the other driver (sherwin williams) on a two way in a curve, poor guy never had a chance...
