I remember seeing the Harriers taking off at the base. Was pretty awesome seeing a fixed wing aircraft take off without a runway.
Hammer166 Thanks this. -
In Panama I got to see the Blue Angel support Hercules ( Marine aircraft, btw ) take off practicing with the (?? JATO ??) (rocket assisted takeoff) almost 90% straight up. That's part of the show sometimes. Awesome. Got to see a U-2 launch there too. Freaky fast climb rate. Held flight ops with a British carrier ( dinky ships, in comparison to U.S. types ) for a couple of days. The jumpjets were built for them first. by Avro from Canada IIRC. jumpjets = Harriers
