The training and the this that a student is required to do have at least tripled in the last year. They are adding some more to the upgrade process also. A written section, the road test still, trip planning, and something with pretrip and refer. The work book the student has to fill out while out with the trainer is about 40-60 pages long, double that of a year ago. It is becoming very in depth to make sure new drivers are better prepared for what they are gonna be doing ion the own.

Well, I have my CDL now, no restrictions. I'm a day into being 21, my bags are packed, my tickets are bought, and I'm leaving DFW tomorrow around 3PM, weather permitting. I don't really mind going to school with Central; I just wish they offered a break for people who have their CDL already, a whole different class to focus on the things we need to know and not the stuff we ALREADY know, or at least told me that I would be in the CDL class to begin with. I spent nearly $700 between renting a truck and paying all the required fees to get my CDL, not to mention driving nearly 150 miles per day, four days in a row, to get it. All that could have been avoided if I was told that I had to go to that class anyway and pay for it anyway. I would have just got the temporary permit they issue there and brought it back here and got my TX class A. Anyway, its all water under the bridge now and I can't go back to change it. I know I will really enjoy Central and can't wait to get up there and start.
Lady K and mileagemax Thank this. -
By the looks of their brand new trailers, trashed, they probably should have done that a long time ago!

Sesstexas, you are going to have a blast man! School and training is a lot of fun not to mention you are going to be at Central's best terminal to do it. Check my picts and you will see a lot of picts from the SLC terminal. I think you will be pretty impressed!
Once you get to SLC talk to your recruiter about reimbursing you for you plane ticket. Sometimes they pay the whole thing, sometimes part of it up to the cost of a bus ticket.
Wish I was going with you! Have fun man, take picts and keep us posted!

well i finally got with another company...went with schneider they have a regional office/yard in n. slc and say they will give me 2500 miles and home time every 2 weeks or less so i will be one of those use to be central drivers poping in every now and again. i talked to the manager of the dm's carl and my dms boss cole and my old dm and he said that central is going to be paying more like some of the companys i mentioned that were offering me .34 to .36 per mile .. he seemed to be upset i was leaveing and asked if i would give him a chance to se what he could do i told him he could try if he could guarntee me staying in the west home 2 wks or less and still get 2500 miles at .34 per mile...schneider it is .. for now anyway i got offers from pride , england, werner, heartland and some others i forget who.. having that 1st year down really makes a difference so any newbies hang in there as long as u can it will get better..and hopefully they pay raise comes about and wasnt a bunch of talk..by the way schneider does have tution reimbursement and i think alot more to offer than central..the operating centers that are big enough have free wash/dryers just use your soap. free massagers for your back .. free cars to use to get around town unfortunatly the n. slc is to small i will see what fontana has to offer when i get there
