Pride Transport

I've actually known a few guys that went through your same situation and went to Pride afterwards and were hired. In fact, I know a couple guys that went to the England school purely for the license as it's actually fairly cheap compared to private schools, then quit and went to Pride for training. In your situation, they most likely will make you go out with a trainer again and it is a 12 week training period. If you do well though they get you out faster.

There is the chance that they just send you out on an evaluation which is essentially 1-4 weeks depending on the driver out with a trainer to evaluate your abilities. These are usually for guys who have close to a year experience, but not quite, or have experience but nothing current in the last 3 years so you probably won't fall in that category.

And TooGroovy, I haven't been to SLC for months and probably won't see it anytime soon on a dedicated from CA to KY. If you're ever in Mira Loma let me know though as I think we're doing drop and hook out of the yard on the LA end.

I read a Google review that said you have to run 10,500 miles a month to get medical insurance?

 

You're supposed to average 10,000/month for the year to keep medical insurance. I've never heard of anyone getting it revoked and they even say they work around the number, it's not a hard set deal.

Their insurance is expensive though. Honestly, it was nearly 6 years ago since I had insurance through my own employer so maybe it's just gone up that much since I had to deal with it, I don't know. A lot of drivers complain about it being expensive though and it looks high to me. I can't remember how much but I can ask my friend who has a two person family plan.

My wife is a teacher so we get union benefits that are much better and cheaper which is why I don't have to deal with it. I know a few things about our benefits but for the most part, I'm really not the driver to ask about that.

 

Just getting in here and will be starting the CDL training this Monday. The usual 160 hour certificate and three weeks in length. Looking at truck companies now and it looks like Prime will take students out of CDL school? No felonies, no drug related arrests, and one driving mistake, 12 years ago.

When you say the training is 12 weeks in length, is this straight time out? Or is it home in between? Prime seems like a nice place to start and I'm wanting desperately to stay away from a couple of other carriers. The usual suspects show up at the CDL school and recruit right there. Would rather have a good start into the new career...

They do take students right out of school, that's what I did. 12 weeks out includes hometime in there. Every time I was back at the terminal during training the guy in charge of training would ask if I'd been home. They know it's hard for most new guys to adjust to the lifestyle. I was actually forced to take a week off at one point because I had chosen not to go home up to that point.

I don't think they hire where you live though. Apparently they got rid of the hiring map on their website since the last time I looked. They're pretty strict with their hiring areas. The closest to you that it showed was a small area around Chicago. Almost all of the drivers live in the western states and Texas.

 

Was concerned about the hiring area and could not find a map on the site. Sounded like most of the posts here were SW and not surprised by the info. Another top company just replied back to the same issue.....Not hiring in your area.

Dang. Quest continues and sorry for the sidetrack on a very good thread. Thanks to all who contributed and guess we'll keep looking. Another trucker did tell me being just North of the Detroit/Saginaw area is going to be tough.

 

Do they hire drivers who live in las vegas?
