w.d.40 & all the other spray in a can does not last long. I unscrew the hook ends & put some clean grease on about 3-4'' from the bottom & it spreads as you turn it back in to ratchet. some time, I will just squirt a lil clean oil on the mechanism & the threads.

P B Blaster is not a lube. Grease just collects dirt and is a mess after a while.
I use Motorkote spray on mine. It stays on a long time, water wont wash it off and it dont collect dirt as bad as grease and oil does. -
I use the white spray grease in a can. Its made by PB blaster and I ususaly get it at Home Depot. Its fast and easy to spray on, last alot longer the wd or regular blaster.

I put motor oil on mine,i oil my snap binders too. I keep a quart of cheap oil and an oil can in the truck all the time. Also i oil my 4" winches, not the track just the winches. Works for me. It stays on the binders for quite a while.

I used a dry graphite spray before. It is more like graphite-impregnated paint rather than oil/grease/lube - it'll be dry to touch in a few hours. It stays clean and lasted over a few months, though I don't use chains that often. I'd say 4~5 times a months average.
The problem is preparation is time consuming. Just like paint, surface needs to be cleaned and de-greased first. And you have to let it dry before reassembly.
Last time, I didn't have time to do all that, so I just dipped the ends of screws into a tube of marine grease. It works, but it leaves stripes on my gloves. -
Big Red sprayable grease, check it out. I love the stuff haha.

I use 90w gear lube, but mine are either in use or laying on the trailer floor. They never get wet or dirty.
Do not use grease. I've tried anti-seize..........once.

I use that 3 n 1 oil.
