A horse trailer came loose from the truck pulling it down the Indiana Toll Road early Saturday morning near Chesterton before striking a semitrailer and killing its driver.Authorities haven't notified the driver's family of the death and are withholding the driver's name.Rick Bullis, of Wood Dale, was pulling the 12-foot trailer when it broke free from his truck, according to a release from the Indiana State Police. He was heading west.#The trailer hopped a median and ended up in the eastbound lanes, police said. It was empty. The trailer struck a semi pulling two trailers, causing that driver to lose control and cross into the westbound lanes before coming to rest in a ditch north of the toll road, according to police.#The semitrailer driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.Police said Bullis wasn’t intoxicated and didn’t appear to make any unsafe lane movements before the accident. He was not cited or charged in connection with the [email protected]

Maybe its time for people pulling horse trailers and such to also get a special license and have to do daily pre trips and log them as well like we do and the man should at least be charged with manslaughter and try him in court

    Sad story>

Are you thinking that you want these folks doing pre-trips like we see done (NOT) on a daily basis.

You can make ALL the rules you want, it still comes down to personal responsability and training. What's the point of a mandatory inspection if Harry Horse Trailer doesn't have a clue as to what he is looking at or for.

I do not see it being something that would ever make a difference. We had a fisherman enroute that the boat passed the truck.

I have seen many trailers being pulled by private people not even secured on the hitch. Yet the police close their eyes and never see it, even when they pass them. Let them have a commercial sign and they see things that amaze you.

With no doubt the guy should be charged with manslaughter or worse.

What I don't understand is why the driver of the SUV pulling the horse trailer was not charged? That trailer could not have been properly secured in order for it to "break free". Hold a CMV driver's feet to the fire, but 4-wheeler drivers can do anything without fear of being held responsible.

Condolences to the family of the UPS driver.
