Is there any one in houston that is stil driving for sefl?

I'm going for my second interview this week with Southeastern. I'm in the New Orleans area. I've heard good things about the company and they seem decent. I keep seeing $22/hr on here. I was told $19 to start and I would top out at $21 in 18 months. Still not bad. It's better than the $14.40 I make now in construction trucking and the physical work will be easier, too.
The only thing I'm not wild on is having to go out of town for orientation. I think the guy said it was for a week in Houston? I assume more like 5 days but I guess I'll find out for sure. Going to have to get boarding for my dog, which isn't cheap... But it's worth it for the pay raise.
Can any SEFL drivers talk about what goes on in orientation? Just curious what takes a week... I have serious ADD issues... Can't stand sitting around watching safety vids and listening to prepared presentations. Just curious about what to expect, should I be hired Wednesday. -
the pay depends on what you were hired as. I don't remember how long the orientation was for me. prepare to be bored. I wouldn't worry about the pay. when the economy was good we were getting 50 cent raises every year

Preparing for my interview this morning and I just read something kind of disturbing online... is it true that SEFL drivers have to purchase their own pallet jacks and hand trucks?
This is becoming quite an expensive job to get into, compared to other companies in the area... From what I read (if it's true) I have to pay $400 for the jack and hand truck plus $150 or so for uniforms (I know the company puts up $100 ever year thereafter, but still)
So for me, that's:
1. A half day missed Monday at my current job for nothing because my interview was rescheduled
2. A full day missed today because there was no way to get off early enough to make the 10:30 interview.
3. $300 or more to get my dogs shots and have him boarded for a week while I go to orientation.
4. $400 for the jack and hand truck
5. $150 for uniforms
I really need a job but I'm starting to wonder if I wouldn't have done better with one of the many other LTL companies in my area. If the hand truck/jack thing isn't true then I feel the investment will be worth it in the end. But if it is true I think that's a bit much and it's something that should have been brought up in my first interview, as it may have changed my mind about continuing to pursue this company.
Anyway, I'm going to ask about the pallet jack and hand truck in my interview today if it doesn't come up. I'll report back here what I find out as I feel anyone applying here should know this up front.
All that said, I will likely still take the job if it's offered to me. I own a hand truck already so maybe I can at least not have to buy that unless it's forced on me.
SEFL driver comments? -
yes you do have to buy your own pallet jack. however when I started I asked the manager if I could wait to get caught up on some bills and he said that was fine. also when you do get 1 its yours when you leave or you can sell it. plus they come with a lifetime warranty. I never got 1 because I wound up doing vacation relief for the line haul drivers within a few months after I got hired. but all the expenses they payroll deduct I think bout 20 dollars a week

Oh, and you do not have to purchase a hand truck, only the pallet jack. Just for anyone who's interested. -
Well, I just tried to put in an application to Southeastern, but I guess if you have been in an accident in the past 10 years, you are not eligible for employment. Doh! It looks to be a great company, so maybe in another 6 years I may be in a position to put in another one.

God forbid the average "Joe" earns a decent living under decent conditions so someday maybe he can send his kids to college, retire and afford health services.
My guess is Mustang Mark wishes he was paid twice his worth. Course maybe that wouldn't amount to much.
