Road Fever?

    Newer to industry, only been btw for a few months. Have been experiencing what I can only refer to at this point as Road Fever.

    On three separate occasions, I have pulled over into rest areas and still felt the truck was moving. Not just for a few seconds, but much, much longer. For when I looked out the windshield, I could actually see us moving towards another object (pole, truck), yet it never get any closer -- and when I looked out the side window I could clearly see the truck was not moving. Nearly tossed me into a first ever panic attack when it first occured -- thought my parking brakes had failed and I was about to plow into another truck. Was on my second week then, got out and walked around swore I'd never get behind the wheel ever again.

    Also happened once when I had awakened around 4 am after an hour's sleep or so, truck was idling, and from my bunk I could see movement -- know I wasn't dreaming because I actually got up and pulled on the handles to see if they were set. Was almost like watching a movie or something.

    I know this must have something to do with fatigue, yet have no idea what it is. Any ideas or someone else who might have experienced this?

    Get thee to a Doctor as soon as you can.

    While this may only be a "perceived" motion due to constant travelling. It could very well be an inner ear infection.

    If it is an inner ear problem, it can/may get progressively worse. Making it dangerous to drive. Been there, done that.

    A simple infection can be treated easily, and rapidly.

    I agree... GET TO THE DR!!!! It really does sound like an inner ear problem. Can affect your motor skills and sence of balance. If it worsens really can effect depth perseption, and thats nooo good looking down the long hood of a pete. I know that one first hand... lost contacts and had to wear glasses wich changed my dp alot more than I realized.

    You 2 are correct about that inner ear problem causing problems.
    When I had inner ear problems the issues I had incluced, dizzyness, feeling like the ground was moving or tilting when I knew it was not, kind of missing doorways and bumping into the door frame with my shoulders, ringing in my ears, nausia, feeling so hot that my skin actually was red, then freezing cold. Other then running into doors, this came on very quickly the first time I had it, I was so dizzy I could not stand up, and closing my eyes or being in the dark was out of the question! That made things worse. If anyone had seen me who did not know I was sober, they would have assumed I was drunk! It was terrible, I was in bed like this for a week. The doctor said I had fluid in my inner ear and treated with Allegra D, it did work, but this is something that returns. Once in a while I will get this again, but when I start crashing into doors, and tipping over when picking things up off the floor, I know why. So, now that I know what to expect I can prevent it from getting so bad most of the time.

    The others are right in telling you to be careful with this, if it happens to be an inner ear thing and you are on the road if things get worse. It will be scary for you, and possible dangerous if you can not pull over quick enough. Good luck & take care of yourself.

    Appreciate your input... Have to admit it scared the *&%! outta me when it first occurred. In very good health otherwise, 6' and 155 lbs. of solid highly-sliced muscle, exercise and eat right even when on the road -- lots of vitamins, juices, milk and water with fruits, vegetables & protein rich energy foods. Couldn't figure out what in the world this could be.... Only seems to happen late at night when I'm tired, at first thought I was just having flashbacks to my Kent State years or something (majored in Anarchy)... ;)

    Actually came in for my annual checkup at the VA tommorrow (disabled vet), I'll be sure to have it checked out. Thanks again....

    I have had issues with inner ear infections all my life, and this sounds like the symptoms that send me running for the Doc every time!

    Some of the depth perception issues can sare you half out of your mind! The worst for me when when my son was about 6 months old. He was sleeping and I was walking across the kitchen holding him. And then suddenly it looked as if he was falling away from me!!! If it hadn't been for the fact that I could still FEEL him in my arms, I would have panicked! As it was, I went in and called Doc... "It's happening again!" "Okay, your rx will be at the drugstore. Bring you in ASAP!"

    Make sure your Dr checks it out good, and let us know what happens!
