I rarely run with less than half tanks, especially during the winter. (for obvious safety reasons)
I might have to stop a little more often than most, but gettin' out and stretching these old legs, ain't necessarily a bad thing..... besides, having extra fuel on board during the winter, might just be the thing that saves your life. -
Do newer trucks have an electric primer? Our newer tractors do, just cycle the key a few times and wait 30 seconds. Much nicer then the hand prime.

I never had a stick for my fuel and I never checked it with a flashlight unless it was first thing up in the morning to make sure none had been stolen during the night.
I always planned exactly where and when I would fuel. I would count at getting 5mpg, my truck usually got around 6. I never relied on the guage.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
No fuel cards just Ryder shops. Last one was in Macon. I learned not to trust the gauge. I usually start looking for fuel at a 1/4 tank but I guess I shouldnt have pushed that much.

Yes I agree sticking tanks is always the best. When I look into the tanks, I don't look through the fuel down toward the bottom. I'm well aware of what liquid does to light. I look towards the side of the tank, to see where the fuel is up to, ie; the fuel line. 99% of the time, I'm always fueling at the yard. I don't always run the tank down into the red range below 1/4, but if I have 1/2 tank, I'm not going to fill it up, since that means I can get more product on, thus more $$$ in the boss' and my pocket.

I start looking for fuel way before I even need it. Like when I am planning the trip before I pick the load up... waiting until you've burned 3/4's of a tank before you even think of it is.... I also have a tripodometer that gets reset to zero every time I fuel, obviously the tanks are topped off every time. I have 120's and rarely run more than 900 miles even though I know I can go farther than that. I once went 1100 miles and put 190 gallons in after a string of light loads. I normally run 500-700 miles between every fillup which has me fueling about every other day for the most part.

Yeah, Wink, When you're cutting it that close ya need to eyeball it to verify.
Eaton18 beat me to it, you look at the edge
Fairly obvious you're not paying the fuel bill. Fill every night even if you'd save money by waiting to mid-day the next day to fuel? I'd be kicking some keester if that was my truck! Your supposed to be a pro, AT; and that means operating that truck like it was yours. If the extent of your fuel management skills is "fill it every night," you have much to learn, young Jedi.
I thought that's what ether was for?

^^^ This is how we do it! ^^^SmoothShifter Thanks this.
