Hello everyone. First of all I do want to thank everyone on here that posts information for newbees like me because it really helped me with my descision to do this. I have been forced to change careers because the company I worked for eliminated our hole department at the end of 2010. I have been working part time while collecting and looking for another job doing what I was doing but no luck. It seems like nursing and truck driving are the only jobs in demand right now. My unemployment will run out later this year and I always liked driving trucks so I decided to get my CDL and give trucking a try. I drove Fire equipment and dump trucks when I was younger and always enjoyed it so here goes nothing. I also enjoy driving when we go on vacations because I always enjoyed seeing the country. If everything goes as planed I guess I will see much more of the country. I have been researching companies by using their web sites and using this site so I decided to join this site. I start school next week and I am as ready as I can be. Thanks again![]()

Welcome from someone who has been thinking about this for a while now, I have been researching and reading here.
I know the feeling of the job market also, I am tired of short term contract so I have been looking at the company schools and pay my own way schools.
Any suggestions? -
Welcome and do check out some of the Great post on here... especially check out threads to see if you want this type of life style... Good luck to all of you

Hey QuietRoads, I am signed up with a private school that is located near my house. I am used my own money to pay for it. I just didn't want to have to stay with a company for a year or so just because they trained me. I also noticed that most of the companies I am interested in will pay tuition reimbursement. I just looked at the fact that if I go to one of their schools I will already be gone for all of that time plus the over the road training where this way I will only be gone 4-6 weeks for over the road training when I finally decide on a company. The private school just seemed better for me. I figured that way I didn't have to rush and pick a company school and be stuck there for a year or so. From reading different blogs on here I think the best advice from some of the other people on here is that everyone is different so what works for me may not work for you. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.
Road Warrior, I think I will really like truck driving because I do enjoy alone time and like I said I really enjoy driving when I go on a trip because I like to meet new people and see other parts of the country. I have been to most of the east coast states except for Main and Rhode Island and have been to the east part of Canada so maybe this way I will get to see the rest of our country. In our local paper there are always companies looking for truck drivers. The only other local job in demand is Nurses and I don't picture myself as a nurse. Thanks, good luck with your racing and be safe. -
98Ultrarider, thanks for the info...
I am still 50/50 on method, I do like the idea of not being locked in up front. Then again other factors at play also, good luck in school.
