I just purchased a Truck from Select Trucks in Fontana, Ca. Going to put it on with a company that's plated out of Colorado. He says he can't get a plate without a Title Number. Title Reciept won't work. I called DMV for info and they said that yes in fact I have to wait for the title with a title number before I can plate it. WTF I still have a payment coming up in 45 days? Does all the states do this for a IRP Plate. Looking at going on with a company that Plates their trucks in IL.
Of course Sacramento Takes 4 to 6 weeks. Any feedback will be Great

Too late now, but you should have had the carrier title it in CO as well, and you'd be up and running. The carrier out of IL would have saved you sales tax if you titled it there. It sucks.

You should have got a copy when you purchased but If you financed it call the loan company and have them fax you a copy or just go back to select chances are they will still have a copy

isn't the title number gonna change once it gets reissued under the new name???

he owns the truck now so the current title is no longer valid.

There's no sales tax on the truck IF I RUN LESS THAN 50% OF MY MILES IN CA. IN THE 1ST SIX MONTHS. And yes, the title number changes when ownership changes.
When I purchased the truck I got a receipt for title application. No Title Number on that. Hopefully this won't take too long. Trying to find out now if ILL. can plate it W/O title number.
