Hi, my 2005 international 9900 with the isx started throwing the yellow check engine light and derating when the engine is cold, it comes and goes while its cold/warming up usually stays on for no more than a minute. It's fault code 187, sensor supply voltage to the cam position sensor, exhaust psi sensor, rail fuel psi sensor, egr position sensor & egr diff psi sensor. I've replaced quite a few exhaust pressure sensors and egr diff pressure where I use to work, but I've never seen this code before. I checked the connections and wiring at the sensors, I removed and cleaned up the exhaust pressure sensor(and made sure line going to exhaust manifold is clear). Just wondering if anyone else has expierance with this. I'm afraid the problem is gonna get worse fast. Id rather fix it myself even if that means changing a few unnecessary parts. I do have access to insite where I use to work if need be. Thank you!

this sensor is called sensor 2 it is in the top between the head above turbo(is not the turbo) in a square box (egr system), just change or clean

Chances are one of those sensors is shorting out and taking down the 5 volt supply causing this code. See if you have any inactive counts for any of the sensors you have listed for data erratic or anything like that. If you get the code to become active, you can try unplugging those sensors one by one to see if the 187 becomes inactive, then bingo, you found your culprit. Cleaning sensors rarely makes these codes go away. Like you said, exhaust pressure sensors do fail often. That is the one I replace most often too, they just can't take the heat. Good luck, I hope you get it!

last couple i found were the egr position sensors.they had melted for some reason.luckily one of the easier and cheaper ones to replace.good luck.

Once you have this figured out, you should see if your ECM calibration is up to date. Cummins regularly updates the operating software and strategies to help optimize egr efficiency and increase life span and cut down on erroneous fault codes.

Update: I took a shot in the dark, plugged a new exhaust pressure sensor in, problem solved! (For now anyway, its always somethin). Thanks for the advice! My ecm was recaled about 3 months ago, so it should be good to go, the old sensor was painted red a looked a little different, assuming its original , 430k is better then some I've seen. Thanks again!

Cool, glad to hear that! Good ol' exhaust pressure sensor strikes again!!! Yes, the newer sensors are a bit different, hopefully better!!!

    Drive safe!
