I was planning on starting CDL school on Feb. 27. School is six weeks, so would be finished on April 6. My daughter has told me that her and her fiance have to push up their wedding date to May 26 (original date was Sept. 22) because the fiance has been offered a job in Australia and he has to move there to start by mid-June, and they thought they would be better off getting married, then moving there together.
My problem is that I could potentially be out with a trainer at this time. How accomodating would companies be to making sure I got home for 3 or 4 days for her wedding and the other related festivities?
If this was something that was mentioned during the application/interview process, would this be a deal breaker for getting hired?
I have not yet contacted any companies about job prospects, was waiting until I started school.
There is no way that I could miss the wedding. I'd abandon the truck/trainer before I could let that happen.
Interupting training for wedding....

Just make sure your start date is after the wedding. I don't think that a company will be able to get you home for that. I hate to see you disappointed and already something on your DAC.
Moosetek13 Thanks this. -
Just call and ask. My company forced me to take almost a week off during the middle of training because I hadn't been home yet(by my choice). Some don't want you to see hometime during it, some do.

It is better to delay your start date than try to get home time during training.
The former is showing your consideration for the job requirements.
Plus, there is never any certainty about home time dates - while in training or otherwise. -
Just put off training till after the wedding.

Thats a tuffy, just be careful of who you sign on with as there are companys that are notorious for making and breaking promises.

I'd definately put off training till after your daughters wedding. It's a once (hopefully) in a lifetime event which I'm sure you don't want to miss. Your employer may promises you the the time off, but when it comes down to it, thier freight and customers come first. If your under a load that has to be delivered and you miss the wedding, all you'll get is a sorry about that.....maybe

I have actually the same exact situation I have talked to the company I am going to sign on to which is Gordon and they told me the same exact thing but I am the one getting married and they said that it is signed by the recruiter, dispatcher, and fleet manager they told me it is pretty much the one and only time you can use it is when you start and it is more or less a golden ticket.
