Getting closer to purchasing a new CAD truck. Absolutely a Kenworth T800. Undecided on power. The options I am looking at are the ISX15 or the Paccar MX. Both seem to have their problems. Not sure which one has the least. Of the two, is one in particular less expensive to work on than the other once the warrenty has expired ?
Cummins ISX or Paccar MX

Can of worms, hellloooo
lol
I'm just kidding. Idk man, paccar engines seem newer, so might not have as many parts available or may be more complicated to work on than the big C -
Both are going to be crap sandwiches however the ISX will give you more service options to help wash the taste out of your mouth.
fortycalglock, SHC and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
I'm in the same boat. I'm scared of buying the MX because it seems like a new engine gamble. I think I've convinced myself to go with the ISX even though the price tag is a little higher. I don't personally know many people or companies that are running the MX but it sounds like the second year (2011) ISX/DEF trucks are doing ok according to people I know.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Get the ISX. The MX is Paccar's house branded Cummins, similar to the arrangement Cummins has with Case, Komatsu, etc. Given the choice just buy the Cummins, not Cummins Lite.
-
The Euro drivers in The Garage subforum have a strong dislike for the engine, which has been over there for years. I believe it is a DAF or something like that. I'd go with the ISX, and I think that is a boat anchor. There are no good engines these days.

Honestly, I wish they'd take off all the egr, dpf, def, and any emissions crap on them. Then they might last a long time without issue.
I believe its just BS. Open up the engines and let them breathe, better MPG, better reliability, and more longevity in engine life. -
No it's not! The PX-6 and PX-8 in the medium duties is the 6.7-8.3L Cummins but the MX has nothing to do with Cummins.
-
Get the ISX asyou will be able to have it serviced at MANY more locations and parts are more readily available right now for the ISX over the PACCAR motor, even at the PACCAR dealers!!!
-
You sir are CORRECT!! I stand corrected!! The MX series comes out of Paccar's Leyland "DAF" company. I gave bogus info. originally; thinking the mid-range engines right up through were all the same. My apologies!! STILL.............buy the ISX!!Jfaulk99 Thanks this.
