If you are in Ohio and have given your job notice that you are leaving, and they let you go before the notice is up, you need to call unemployment or file it online. That will help with your expenses and you can draw it up until you get your first training check. Second in some states and Ohio is one of them. If you give notice and they terminate you before your notice they still have to pay you for the time you would have worked. Now this part only applies in certain instances, example if you are going to work for a direct competitor. You can call the Labor board or unemployment may be able to help you with this.

If all they said was don't bother coming in, you still need to go in until they tell you that you are terminated.

Actually that was my plan dip. I did the same math you just did, my expectation is that I will have my wife drop me off at the hotel, but it may turn out that I have to drive my truck (which is worse on gas and missing some key saftey features [like a back windshield] that make me nervous about driving it to Hamilton and leaving it in a hotel parking lot for 3 weeks).

DB2681: Thanks for your help with that. Couple of problems though: I'm not employed in Ohio; My employer isn't firing me, they're offering me a position as an independent contractor...so I don't think that works the same, although I could be wrong. As for your point about continuing to go in...you're absolutely correct, and I am continuing to work until the point that they actually release me, which I happen to know is likely any day now.

It may be that I have to get a job through a temporary service so that I can get by until march...but I'm still looking into all of my options.

Carbon, if you live in Crittenden now how come you're not getting your permit there? You will have to eventually (by law I think you're required to in like 7 days or something like that). I used to be a life insurance kinda guy myself, well kind of (quack quack). Wasn't my kind of gig. I did well but hated the calls all the time from idgets.

It will all work out for you one way or the other. Best of luck on it.

Thanks Bear. Yeah I haven't transferred my license to KY yet, and if I do then KY charges extra for me to take my cdl permit test because it will be less than 30 days with a KY license. Of course I'll have to transfer my CDL to KY anyway...and I'm not sure how much they charge for that...so maybe it ends up a wash.

You won't have to leave it at the hotel for 3 weeks...... during 'ground school' you get to go home every weekend.

Hey Carbon, if money is real tight perhaps you ask Millis to let the $400 that is needed for the 1st day of class be paid later...im told they have done it before.

I wish you all the luck in the world....hopefully we will see you monday!:biggrin_2552:

If you take your test in KY before having a license for more than 30 days in KY it will cost you about $150.00. It does however include your costs for the CDL Testing (2 tries). I went through the same thing and had to pay that enormous cost.

Bear is correct - you will have to change it over anyway!

If you talk to Mike Millis - he just may work with you on the money down!
