I agree with the tri-axle comment. I ran Tri axle dumptrucks about a year and a half ago in PA bringing stone and whatever they needed to build roads, rebuild main roads, and the pad sites. The pay for that was hourly, at $73 an hour. Some of it was tonnage. At one point i had a couple loads at around $11/ton but the $4.50/ton neighborhood was pretty common.
Chesapeake energy are like the main people to talk to. Other then that its real hard to find out where these guys are getting the contracts. I know Smith has gotten into water hauling...
Keep in mind the roads are rough, the hills are nasty, your driving through the woods (watch the paint and antenna's!) and a lot of the drivers a real ##########! This is brutal work for an OTR truck... 13's 15's and 18 speeds are a must, big power, and heavy axles. Full locking rears are a must in my opinion. O and you'll never survive by yourself with out a BIG radio, aint nothing like yellin up the hill and no one can hear you, and you end up meeting a 20 truck convoy on the way down and your loaded headin up... not to mention all the pissed off drivers.

Chesapeake, Haliburton, Schlumberger (spelling?) are just a couple.
Triaxle dump trucks are generally contracted from specific quarry operations in the area.
This is for the Marcellus shale drilling/fracking

Don't waste your time. I've been water hauling for 4 years in Tunkhannock. When it first started out the rates were high and plenty of work. Now, there's no work and most of the big companies are in a rate cut war. I pull for seventy an hour, the latest rumor I've heard was the big boys like Oilfield and HWR(old ex-caliber) are pullig for 58 per hour. As far as tri-axles ( shortbusses ), they can get into tighter spots, so they will work more. You will burn about 60 gallons of fuel per day, at $4.30 per gallon. Do the math. Tirewear is awefull, I know some Tri-axles that are only getting 40-45k on drive tires. Abused equipment, You must hire a driver who is born off-road. Dump truck, logger, landfill drivers. You can't hire these super trucker, truck stop princesses. You can't take a over the road, never been off the asphalt driver, and put him or her in the woods. I've seen a lot of trucks being tore up because a driver can't drive in the mud. I feel sorry for some of these drivers, they left good paying jobs to come haul water. Most of them are collecting unemployment because there off more than they work. Overall the gas companies are buying thier own trucks so they can do it all themselves Tipical trucking.

The pumpkin (Schneider) recently became involved in some of the Pa. operations. I heard some of the company drivers are getting around $45/hour and like someone already said, lots and lots of sitting. Plenty of Texas guys coming up that way recently. Can't wait to see how they do on some of the mountain roads when the white stuff starts coming down this winter.

With Schnieder getting in it, the bottom is about too drop out on the rates. They will end up forcing everyone else out. At least until thier drivers start screwing up.
