figures. oh well guess i have some more exploring to do or lock into a 1 year min.. i was laid off last year and now working for myself its just not going well so...... kinda getting to the point of STUCK if you know what I mean. But I seriously appreciate your info. there are alot of people that tell you alot of great stuff for referrals i have found... but it can't be all that great in certain regards to what they tell you. so I'm doing my own checking... just want to do it right out of the gates... so I don't get screwed

if you HAVE to do company training, call millis transfer, they are the ONLY company i recomend for company training. Good KW's and $35,000 - $45,000 first year.

If you can pay for school yourself call Watkins Shepard Trucking, $40,000 - $50,000 first year

in FL your options are very limited. The only company i recomend out of FL is WEL Companies, but i was told yesterday that they are not hireing out of FL at the moment....

Out of the other companies that hire new drivers out of FL prime is probably your best option unfortunatly

First off, I would recomend getting your CDL before you go to a school if possible. I took the written tests then rented one of those trucks to use for your CDL test. It was an automatic with air brakes and pulled a 28 ft trailer. I feel this really benefited me once I got to school. While most of the class was taking (and failing) the different tests at the DPS office the few of us that already had our CDLs were driving trucks. In other words we had a week more drive time than most of the other students.

Secondly, I went through Stevens and once again, the school and training program there is excellent. It doesnt matter what company that you go with that offers schooling with a commitment, they will charge you if you dont fulfill the contract.

I would recommend a community college for school though. Who knows, the state might even pay your tuition!

Go to Good & Bad Trucking Companies > Motor Carrier Questions - The Inside Scoop > Trucking Company DAC Reports > Stevens and research Stevens as well as the other training companies.

Not true . Several members here have been very successful without a diploma . Hundreds have come and gone and didn't last a year in the industry with a diploma .

I don't think it would hurt even if I got my permit? do the skills there? the only option I would have for a truck for the test is a lowboy a friend has to haul heavy equipment... but getting that could take as long as going there for the whole thing :)
