Getting Home

Sounds to me like I'm the only person getting shafted on home time, I tell them when I need to be home, then when they don't get me home at a minimum of 48 hrs late max and they don't like usual, I just go home just like this time, and they complain, I don't care. they don't care about me getting home so why should I care about how far I drive to get home. Ive driven bob tail from as far away as laredo, Tx to New York to the house and I live smack dab in the middle between the two in Northern Alabama. Every time I ask for home time and I ask for it at the beginning of my three to four week shift when leaving the house they tell me oh" no problem but when its time they always got excuses to keep me from going. My response is always the same, "C YA" Shoulda, woulda, coulda, too late now, Im rollin homebound.

 

I've tried every excuse in the book to get home on time including doctors appointments, they just don't understand that my home time is just as important if not more important to me than it is for them. I mean I only get to come home once a month while they get to go home every day, I also understand they'er on the clock while I run the hub. But still thats no excuse to hold a driver up from getting home for any reason at all. A company should care not only about its drivers ability to not only get home on time but they should also care about that family who's driver is on the road away from them trying to just go home to get that re-fresh and restart to do it all over again, If your company doesn't care about you or your home time you need not be working for that company. Me, I'm pretty much in a catch 22 with waiting for my wife who's a diabetic to return to new employment so I can quit these idiots to get on with a company that actually cares about its employees.

Hey I really appreciate your thoughts on this matter, I started out parking a car at the terminal which is about 200 miles from the house, but it never did any good. I did that at first because I didn't want to be tied into a we got you status. After a year or so I, and ten (10) trucks later. I said the hell with it, I pack light, CB enough clothes for a week, log book case and a small ice chest, coupled with a credit card for one free air-fare ticket to anywhere in the country. My last ride is always just a taxi cab away, and I can't wait to cash it in on that long over due flight home that say's C U Suckers. Of course I'm still waitn to use it for the right time. As for now I always just take the truck home, this way they have to pay me dead head miles to the next pick-up after home time. Still it's a challenge to get to the house on time every time. Some company's actually care while others don't. I use to get home on time with the smaller company's that I worked for in the past, but since I went with this company it's always a challenge every time.

You know your right ! And that was one of the main reasons why I joined Truckers Network because of the insights from past experiences with other seasoned truckers. I really appreciate all those replies with consideration. I thank you not only for your replies but also for your admiration in your work ethics describing your history as a driver.
