You don't have to ask the instructor anything about driving a stick shift, they'll ask you first. Then they will teach you the basics and don't feel embarrassed the majority of people out there don't know how to drive manual transmissions.

Well went over the fence the last two days and I did not pass 2 chances down three to go. The first try I passed everything and portion until I came back and came to close to the fence. (Me personally I think they should've gave that to me and that testing agency is taking C-1 money.) Today I went over and messed up on my parallel parking. It was quite discouraging but I am going to keep it up and keep going until I have no more chances....I'll go over here tomorrow and take my time and focus on each section. They sent 4 people over and no one passed today.

Don't sweat it. I failed my first shot across the fence. Parallel parking. I discovered the instructors were not scoring us correctly, in 2 days we had every person that crossed fail parallel park. I brought it to Johns attention and explained the problem to him (the instructors were passing us even if our ICC bumper went over a cone).
Though I did see 2 guys that were there for 5 weeks fail every time and get sent home, ironically one guy already had his cdl but stopped driving truck 5 years before. One road instructor made him stop right in an intersection and get out of the driver seat after he almost pancaked a honda making a right turn from the left lane.mattbh23 Thanks this. -
Went over the fence again this morning was third up for my test and ended up first. Don't have a success story third chance and I screwed up my parallel again. After that I just came back to the hotel and took a break for the rest of the day. I got range time tomorrow and I'll work on it some more. If trucking is meant for me to do then I'll get it but if it's not I at least have this experience to let others know how it is to get started.

When I attended C-1 in FW 2 1/2 years ago......I spent the first week in the class, 2nd week we went to the range, passed my pre trip on wednesday, passed my range test (straight line, off set, etc) on wednesday, road test on Thursday, over the fence 1st Friday morning, passed first time. Went to DMV, got license, collected my $200 and John took me to lunch because I was done at 1115 am.
I watched guys there for 5-6 weeks that didn't get it. It amazed me. I say this to ya, just because you pass that test and get your CDL DOES NOT mean you can drive OTR. It's a different world. I stuck with it and still drive.....LOVIN EVERY MINUTE OF IT.
Good luck to you....mattbh23 Thanks this. -
Well went out on the range today for some overtime learning. I figured what portion of the test I was messing up on. I was going to far back on my hard right into the box for my parallel. So now I am going over the fence with confidence Monday.
