That could get awkward..Most times we park the truck and bring the paperwork in..I bet it was that type of slavish attention to detail that explains why you're an ''ex trainer..''

Also,if you're hearing voices,it's time to pull over and get some rest..Cuts down on preventable accidents.

 

i supposes that those of you that don't have electric mirrors are supposed to jump into the passenger seat to readjust there mirrors so that they make sure there tandems are in there sight.

and then once you straighten out. jump back in the passenger seat to adjust the mirror back in place.

the lesson IS, know where your tandems are going. cuz you're never gonna keep an eye on your tandems when when your 90 degrees or sharper with your truck and trailer. 53 feet stretches a LONG way beyond your mirrors when turned that tight.

the second lesson would be. to ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. but if you can't see what's there at night. then it's time to park your truck untill daylight.

but heck, only some of us can be perfect.

That also could be construed as a preventable accident. If you hadn't been on the road at that particular time, maybe he wouldn't have hit the DOT bumper... Any type of incident could be construed as "preventable". Just don't go calling out other drivers on an online forum for DRIVERS. If I were being trained by someone who called out another driver unnecessarily, I wouldn't put an ounce of stock into anything that person had to say. Keep to teaching the fresh meat how to back and turn. Those of us that are still on the road will keep doing our jobs, too.

 

Yes CRAP HAPPENS, just had a accident at the Petro in Hammond LA. Was late at night and dark and the truck stop was full. Was going down a row to find parking came towards the end of the row and a truck was parked in a non-parking spot blocking my turn. I stoped got out and looked at the turn and where I was and thought I could make a uturn. I knew it would be close so went slowly. Started turning and backing watching my tandems and my trailer all the time. I got out and looked every few inches because it was tight. My tandems were set for CA bridge law so trailer had lots of swing.

By now tucks were behind me and getting impatient as I stopped and got out and walked around my trailer. I still inched my way around but misjudge the swing and hit the trucks fender with my trailer.

Was it preventable yes because I misjudged my trailer and because I should have never tried the U-turn. But what I get from safety and accident is you weren't watching your mirrors and didn't get out and look. All which is BS because I did the damage could have been worse if I wasn't watching the trailer because I stoped as soon as I saw it hit.

That is my only problem with the cookie cutter answers to accidents that happen. it is not always because the driver was not watching.

I get why you repeat the same thing over and over because it will eventually sink in. But to blame every accident on the driver not looking is wrong. I don't know about celticwolf's accident but there are places that are dark and hard to see at night. We all now that if you come into a place during the day and it takes them awhile to unlaod and you have to leave and night everything looks different. As drivers we need to pay attention as we come in so we can be prepared as we got out. But as a company they need to understand that Crap happens and to give cookie cutter answers to crap dose not keep drivers. There is no way that a driver can prevent every thing from happening. If he follows the training and he's alert he can prevent most of it. But to say you are not a big fan of the crap happens mentality tells me you must live in a bubble which is fine live in a bubble the rest of us will deal with the real world.

 

What a jerk. You get shot down and hated by everyone on here and all you can do is make fun of someone's joke? You are not very good at being an insult comic so stick to teaching.

 

Here's a real world suggestion..Next time slide your tandems so that you can get out of the spot without ripping off someones hood..When you've gotten out,slide them back where they need to be..Might have saved you from an accident.What do you think?

That's what I would have done.But what do I know? BTW,who else would you blame your accident on? You were the driver..Just wondering?

That was brilliant ,Driver..If I hadn't been on the road,I might not have been rear ended by a drunk driver..

I guess I'm confused here..You are upset because you feel I used an online forum for ''DRIVERS'' to call out another ''DRIVER''.Meanwhile,you use the same forum to ''call me out'' and advise students to ignore what I have to say. That makes a hell of a lot of sense.I guess next time,I should discuss these things on a knitting forum.
