Okay, I am interested in working in s tx or Louisiana. Just got my cdl two months ago and currently working for baker Hughes in rock springs wy as a equipment operator. Would rather spend more time driving than banging iron. Anyway have been mountain qualified and are currently driving to oil field locations. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Sundog go to the Questions for new drivers. Check out the stone cold rookie in the texas oil field thread lots of good info and leads to other threads. I am down in Sonora applying to Nabor's. They hire water truck drivers and you drive dump drive load drive dump.

In my opinon, South Texas will be difficult because you only have two months experience. I just spent a week and a half there looking for work before heading to Odessa/Midland. There are a lot more opportunities for newbies in West Texas. You might try Thomas Petroleum in Corpus Christi, but you'll be refueling fracking equipment and doing very little driving. Key Energy will hire newbies, they have yards in Victoria, George West, Freer, Zapata, Edinburgh and maybe a few more. Don't waste your time with Nabors because they don't hire newbies in South Texas, but they DO hire newbies in the Permian Basin.
I'm a newbie and I've been in Texas for two weeks looking for a gig. I was offered a job with Key Energy in Crane, TX today and I'm taking it. If you're determined to live in South Texas I suggest you make a beeline for Key. Aside from Thomas Petroleum, they're the only company I found that would hire newbies in that area.
This was only my experience. There are plenty of people on here who know a lot more about it than I do, so make sure you listen to them to.Last edited: Feb 14, 2012

Nabor's hires newbies. They train all the drivers to do it the Nabor's way. Apply online then go and talk to them in person. Today got my 2 year card for physical so just waiting background check to start if it comes back today orientation tomorrow, if not, next thursday. Nabor's has shops all over pick a place and their probabably is a Nabor's shop. San Angelo, Midland for big towns. Sonora, Ozona small. They are all over TX.

Hello everyone, thanks for all the great info contained in this thread. My wife and I are new graduates of a PTDI certified program with hazmat, tanker, doubles & triples, and TWIC cards. We plan to roll on down to Texas in mid March and start a career in the oil fields hauling water. We are both originally from Mississippi but I lived in Texas in the early 90's, worked as an exploration Geologist and loved the State.
Anyway, look forward to hearing more experiences from y'all. -
Ben Gunn,
Thanks for the great info! If you don't mind me asking, what pay range did Key offer you? I will be graduating around the end of the month and will have most of my endorsements but no experience. I do have 20+ years construction experience including operating heavy equipment. I am anxious to get started but don't want to take the wrong deal if you know what I mean...
