Restricting the use of electronics is not socialism. You are free to use those devices however you see fit(and can afford) off the highway. Once you enter the highway your right to do anything but pay attention to the task at hand ends. Your driving a #### vehicle. If you want to socialize become a telemarketer.

While the government intrudes into many aspects of our lives this is one they are supposed to. They or more correctly we can tell people they are not allowed to drink and drive, watch tv and drive, use drugs and drive, text and drive, download porn and drive, hand held phone use and drive........

Notice the common denominator? Driving. Your driving privilege is contingent upon your adherence to all laws according to vehicle type and jurisdiction. That is a fact.

Every one of you see's these idjits with phones crammed in one orifice or another, some even on a headset just blindly tooling down the road. Speeding up, slowing down, sometimes in their lane, sometimes not so much, often making liberal use of the shoulder. If your hones you will admit to seeing this crap on a daily basis in four wheelers, CMV's, LEO's, and unbelievably in pedestrians( I had one just start out across the light at an intersection today with his phone attached to what I suspect was an impersonation of a cranium) . So let's be qquite honest there are valid reason for limiting and prohibiting the use of ghese devices on a public road.

I agree, it makes me uncomfortable to think that any company I work for would want have access to my records. I mean, cell phones are basically home phones now - I call a lot more people than family, we're talking doctors, credit card companies, my banks. I'm not keen on sharing.

They should ban the use of GPS while driving. That woman called Samantha and her boyfriend Rand McNally are very distracting.

Makes me so glad that I'm not a company driver....I'll continue to do as I please.

4,000,000 safe miles tells me that I've been doing it right all along!

If the govt where really serious about making the highways safer, there are better ways to do it then all these hard to enforce bans. This stuff isn't about safety, it is about money. Revenue enhancement pure and simple. Do you really think the average career politician seriously gives a flip about the average citizen. They only care about money and votes. If they really wanted safer roads, just make the driving tests a genuine driving test. One that truly tests the knowledge and skills of the applicant. One where a well trained driver examiner rides with you every time you have to renew your licence. We all know that a good percentage of people can't drive worth a hoot without any distractions. Get them people off the highway and onto a bus or a subway, and maybe the rest of us could deal with an occasional distraction. A good driving test, every 4 or 6 years, no matter what vehicle you drive. Pass it or you are on the bike. That would make roads safer. But they will never do that, because there would be less people paying road use taxes. And some politicians know they would lose their votes if they endorsed such a plan.

<yawn> You can still use your cellphone hand to ear.
You can still drive more than 11 hours in a session.
Guess what? It's against laws, rules, etc. That doesn't mean that you explode or crash or your truck shuts down or whatever.

You have a choice to be compliant or not. No device can enforce that. Even with elogs you can still lie your butt off.

So, they are asking us to do the right thing. Some companies are forcing their hand based on total communication bans.(What about those CB radios that have bluetooth on them are they ok???) But we can be an example. If you're going to talk to someone, please continue to drive your freakin truck down the highway, ok?

Why was it before the ban every YRC driver i saw going down the road had his cell to his head? Hmmmm? No money for a bluetooth? Technology is bad? Just wondering.
