as of right now no. we actually barely have enough work for the 3 of us that are on the account right now. there is a chep account out of a few different cities. as far as i know i believe that there is a nashville chep account as well.

 

Thanks for the reply! I will have to look into the Nashville one, I am at the terminal in ATL today gettin work done on my truck. Know if there is any way for someone here to tell me what accounts are in TN? When I called a recruiter a few months back he said there were none.

 

Call up driver placement, and give them your zip code. Recruiters don't really pay attention to account openings. Nobody in Lithia Springs will really be able to help you either.

 

I worked for Werner for 7 months. I enjoyed working there. Both of my trainers were nice (my first trainer went to Conway). Never had to sit much, always had a pre-assigned. I was constantly running, and only stopped for fuel and at the end of my 11.

The only bad thing I'd say about Werner is it's hard to get ahold of people after hours sometimes. You might be on hold for 20 minutes.

 

Sure let me ask my leprechaun he is out riding his unicorn right now but he was a happy werner driver if you catch my drift.

Congrats on the decent dispatcher. I got 3600 miles last week, but that only happens about a dozen times a year. A 1600 mile run here and there helps a lot.

 

I will say this, from what i've heard OTR with Werner is not a very good position unless u can get that one great dispatcher. I am actually heading back to Family Dollar. The Chep account here in Knoxville is going downhill. The dispatcher who is here is clueless about what he is doing to the account. He is not able to find any work for the 3 of us that r there, and he clearly does not care. we r just numbers to him. I am returning to Family Dollar because I know what to expect there.

This is what i will most likely be running.
1500 miles a week @ .32 cpm, +.06 cpm for safety/on time.
3 loads a week= 78.50 for each load unloaded.
apx 12 stops @16.50 a stop.

 

OTR, regional, and driver's choice are all pretty much crapshoots.

I had Doug Jefferies back on regional/driver's choice, and he was one of the better ones.

It used to be that the chep account was what the loaner trucks at the terminals ran. Busted your clutch? Hop in a beat up freightliner for a week shuffling around some pallets. I got to do that twice when the Indianapolis shop was backed up, and Columbus had one of my parts on backorder. It wasn't a fantastic running account, but 300-400 miles a day was better than sitting at the terminal for $20/day.

Shoot for any dedicated account and you should be fine. The dispatchers are constantly engaged in performance improvement to help win more contracts when they come up for bidding with the customer. The account manager will can any dispatcher or fleet manager that can't outperform the other companies on the account, so they're typically better than average. However, the same goes for the drivers as well, so if you're a subpar driver, you won't be around long. They usually just kick you down to a regional account instead of firing you, and if they like you, they'll throw you on a different dedicated account.
