This is the first I have heard of this anyone know if this is in effect or any differences in pay???

    EXCITING NEWS!

The U.S. Government now allows $52.00 dollars per day of your current pay will be considered a cost to you for meals and on road living expenses and shown on your pay stub as a per diem reimbursement. These dollars which will now be considered a daily expense to you will not be taxable therefore increasing your take home pay!

    Guys,
This has been around for about 2 years at this amount.
Previously, it has been at 36.00 and then adjusted several times.

This is the per diem rate in the IRS rules for Truckers.

    AS I UNDERSTAND IT :

    52.oo/day minus 80% starting 2008 calenday year, = 41.60/day

and if i have recipts totaling more than 42.oo say 66 on one particular day during the month i can claim the whole 52.oo /day

    is this correct?

Only for drivers that are AWAY FROM HOME (sleeping in a truck or motel), and you should have a logbook to back it up (in case of an audit)

My understanding was that you can claim 75% now (80% in '08) without receipts, if you have receipts totaling more then you can deduct the full amount that you spent. Of course if you try and shove a big bar tab in there, that may not be allowed!! ;)
