What is it about idiots and empty trailers in such a hurry?

One less unsafe driver in the world, pity.

"""" Chief Deputy Stephen Engolio said Evans was attempting to drive across the railroad tracks on a small cane field road just off La. 1, and could not clear the tracks in time. """"

Easy now guys... He was on a small cain road. How many small or dirt roads have you been down with RR tracks crossing them? There are quite a few I travel that do, they are main lines and there are no flashing lights or crossing arms. There has been more than one occation that if I hadn't had my windows down I would have been in the path of one. Not because I was in a hurry, but due to lack of visibility, and lack of the engineer using their horns. It happends more than you would think.
On AR-171 there is a double tracked main line that crosses right in front of the Flakeboard MDF plant I deliver to. If it weren't for lights and crossing gates there I would have been hit once. See the tracks come around a blind corner through a wooded area. The train never once touched the horn until he saw me around the corner. I hate that crossing because you have to take it so slow. Its a bad place that can roll a top heavy truck easily. The nose of my truck was under the arms when they went down, which for that crossing is very little warning. The track speed through there is 65P & 55F Which is 65mph for passenger trains and 55 for freight. So it may have not been totally his fault. But he's dead so no one will ever know.
