Where the problem comes into play is when it turns into name calling and insults. I can disagree with someone and be respectful in doing so....It's just not that hard to do. There is no excuse for being disrespectful and mean spirited when disagreeing with something another person has posted.
And being respectful isn't about being politically correct as some would have you believe.....it's about being a decent human being.Last edited: Feb 19, 2012
Rocks, mack4, LSAgentOZR and 9 others Thank this. -
How i look at it... We deal with this every day on the road so why should we have to deal with it on here.. So what if the Forum is PG rated or has rules... yeah we agreed to the rules...we knew they were there when we signed on...If i want the BS and fights heck i can turn on Channel 19 on the cb and laugh my rear end off between the big bad truckers and the lot lizards its cheap entertainment... as for here i come on here cause ive met some great people and i like the way its set up... I dont see it as anything more than joining a club...sometimes ya have to weed out the bad..JMO

Disagreeing in a discussion is perfectly normal. How you disagree is what matters.
Do you oppose the persons post by correcting them with controlled emotions or do you cut loose like some barn yard redneck and call them every cuss word in your vocabulary?
I never went to college, but one thing I've learned is how college graduates conduct themselves in a public and business environment. They are taught how to discuss and disagree without fighting in a controlled environment. When emotions flare, neither side wins and nothing gets accomplished.
We are truck drivers living in a tough world with all walks of life. This forum, though privately owned is in the eyes of the public. There are many non-drivers that read it. There are even kids fantasizing of being drivers reading it. This is one reason we want it viewable to everyone.
If we are going to clean our image up, that means you conduct yourself with a little sense. I know everyone on here has a little smarts or they wouldn't be internet savy. CB rambo's are not welcome even if they can figure out where the power button is.
You're right Bumpy, we do just fine with or without the forum. People come, people go. That holds true at any forum. None of them are lifers. Even a hard core poster won't stay more than five years. Peoples lives change.
That's not an excuse for misconduct. I'll do what I want, if you don't like it, I'll leave. Those are actions of a self centered donkey. Like RW said, it's nothing more than a club.
I don't know if some have noticed, even though us mods have to do the dirty work to maintain some sense of order, we do try to make it a pleasant environment for all.
Have you hugged your mod today?Roadmedic, RickG, TheRoadWarrior and 3 others Thank this. -

It ain't so much PG it's being respectful when disagreeing.
Working Class Patriot and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
FWIW, I've seen this issue hashed out on other forums as well. Some of which I've moderated. The main argument being that there are individuals who bring value to the forum by way of their knowledge and ability to help others. And there are those who feel that these 'valued' individuals should be given special dispensation to be abusive or insulting to others as they see fit because of the good they do for the forum as a whole. I believe that is what bumpy was getting at.
But it has been my experience that if you moderate/ban the valued members the same as any other members, they either shape up or ship out. And yes, some will end up shipping out. Either on their own or because they end up banned. But as surely as they found their way to the forum in the first place, others will also find their way here. And eventually you end up with a population of valued members who can indeed express themselves easily while staying well within the TOS. In short, no forum member is so valuable that they cannot be replaced. Or at least that's been my experience.Last edited: Feb 19, 2012
