Be wary about giving your email addy to recruiters

Looks like you have grounds for a new computer age lawsuit.

Doubt you got him in hot water. He should have just told you they didn't think you were what they were looking for. Or they have decided to pass.

 

Not a chance. His boss may tell him to not do it in the future, but he isn't going to get fired for it because like everybody is telling you, it is 100% legal if done correctly.

The information they found on you is legal. What is illegal is if they found a picture of you or personal information of you and then discriminated against you in any other way they could have if they wouldve seen you in person (i.e. race, disability etc).

What is also illegal is if they found the wrong persons posts. But since they sent you what they found and you blew up at them, its confirmed they are yours.

And thus they didn't hire you. Happens all the time, everyday. It is part of a standard background check at most places. "Googling" applicants is becoming very common. Believe it or not, there are a lot of companies watching forums like this. They have people that just check up on them and see what people are saying.

 

There's no such software that can access your home pc to get your internet history as that is stored on your hard drive. The only way to get that would be to hack your pc which I doubt a recruiter either knows how to do or cares to do it..

Likewise you simply cannot get someones ip address by they're email address. When you check your email your logging into an email server that's connected to a remote machine with a totally different ip and physical location so unless your running the email server on the same machine your connecting to this forum with it's not going to happen.

It's not software folks,
There are unscrupulous .com companies that have popped up as of late
who for a service fee will find the types of web sites you frequent ,using your I.P. address to make a profile on you . Credit Card issuers are doing this and School Districts are doing this on the FBI mandatory backround checks . It is similar to a wire tap from the watergate days only forwarded
30 years in technology. I can give you the names of these. com companies but I would have to dig for them. It is the same technology that allows the advertisers to place specific ads on your home page and around the boarders of your Email home page according to your recent web interests.

E-Mails send from Browsers are will not show the IP of the user, but if you use an E-Mail program such as Outlook then they can see the IP.

Now if it was me and I was talking to Mr.Recruiter man and he told me this hog wash I would have said something like this, "is that a fact? well did you see that post were I told you to #### off? No? Well look again cuz ones gonna be up in about 1 min" then hung the phone up and go on about my day.
