Good to see they seem to take care of their drivers. How was your training period for glass?? Was the trainer/trainers nice people? My husband SHOULD be cleared to go to orientation next Monday the 5th of March, So what was orientation like? He stresses over the small stuff i think...but anything you can tell us...may calm the jitters. He is not a new driver...he has lots of flatbed and oversize exp...just never hauled glass.

    Thanks

No reason for your husband to stress about the glass training at all. My trainer, Mike, is now a supervisor. The other trainers, as far as i know, are good people. Anyway, After 3 days of orientation, the training took about 2 weeks. Some people took longer because they needed the extra help. I was with Combined for 4 yrs. Most of it with Heavy Haul. I'd still be there, but im a single dad and need to be home a lot more then they get me home. Like I said, Dont stress. Combined doesnt run orientation like bootcamp. Its a laid back kinda place. And make sure your husband has about 100 bucks in his pocket for that 1st week so he can eat. Good Luck to him.... If you have any questions ask anytime.

Thanks for the reply...sounds like a real good place. Ins starts as soon as he starts...that is a plus for sure! He wants to do Heavy Haul...he has exp for that too but they still train for the glass. He is OK with it. You hear so many trainer horror stories. He was a trainer at Arrow many moons ago...so he knows how he wants to be treated.

I will be glad when his 90 days is up so i can go too...sitting in one spot is BORING! Worse than i thought it would be for sure.

I was in their Heavy Haul division for 3 of my 5 yrs with Combined. Loved it. When your husband gets to orientation he needs to talk to Cheryl about that. As far as waiting for the 90 days to expire so you can ride with him.... Ummm.... They only have 1 real terminal and thats in Central Point. I didnt make my ex wait when we were married. You didnt hear that from me ok.... baahahaha. Anyway, good luck to your husband. Im sure he'll have a good time at Combined.

There's alot of styrofoam or cardboard padding that goes between the packs of glass. Usually the pads are about 2" by 4". If the glass is padded and secured correctly AND you dont drive like a complete idiot the glass isnt gonna break. But, if just 1 lite (sheet) of glass is broken/cracked.... It can make one hell of a mess.

As for glass breaking, its the flexing of it that will break it. you drive like you have a cup of HOT coffee in your lap. smooth and easy.

It been 5 month's now. things are still working out. getting lots of mile. not having to set around any. staying on the move. being able to go into Canada helps with that. my average run is about 1900 miles.
