I've had those times with shippers, receivers, and a pretty hot exchange with a security guard at southland tube (and y'all know which one too, lol!)

I usually just start laughing at them, and I guess a 6'1" 275 pound man laughing at your attempt to be a tough guy throws off most people.

the guard at ####land just throws up a hand and asks me how I'm doing every time he sees me now, then goes and yells at someone else, lol!

Good thread. Considering coming back into the industry and Maverick is on my short list. Appreciate all the information you guys post about the company. Extremely helpful.

don't take the ######## too seriously, the company has its quirks like any company this size.

For all the griping and ######## I do...it may seem that Maverick isn't so great...but thats not exactly true.

As far as big companies go, Maverick is a pretty darn good place to work.

The reason I gripe so much boils down to the fact that I'm just hard headed, stubborn, and prefer to be left alone...LOL.

I should buy my own truck and trailer and be done with it....probably will if anything ever makes me decide to leave Maverick.

All that is to say...if you're gonna be a company driver and flat bed is what you want...there is no other choice...Maverick all the way!

I was just looking at a FMCSA chart of WLL for chains. I know Maverick uses 5/16" chain and says it has a WLL of 4,000 pounds. But it would have to be a Grade 70 or better quality to have that WLL. I looked for the markings on my chains and can't find any. Unmarked chains are regarded as a grade 30 @ 1,900 WLL. Anybody have an answer?

The chains are not usually marked...the hooks should be though.

MSO uses 3/8" chains...mine are not marked either.

and that's another thing I've went rounds on with the powers that be, all these chains floating around that have had the hooks changed. the WLL of a chain officially becomes its weakest link. these "repaired" chains have unmarked hooks, in the past, I thought that essentially made them useless.

but then again, what the hell do I know, I'm just a truck driver.

According to FMCSA an unmarked chain will be considered the lowest grade, that being a 30 with a WLL of 1,900 Lbs for 5/16". Thus my question of the 4,000 WLL that Maverick says we have.

Talked with the guys in LR and was told Maverick specifies Transportation Grade 70 chains. I was also told all chains should be marked on every third link or so. I've never seen any marks on mine but I'm going to take out the wire brush and see if I can find them. Also found this description:

    Gr 70
    Transport
As its name implies Transport Chain is used primarily to tie down loads on over-the-road equipment. The yellow chromate (gold) plating makes it easily recognizable even from a distance. Made from heat-treated carbon steel it has about 25% more strength than high test chains. Hallmarked every 1 to 3 feet with manufacturer's symbol and grade marking: 7, 70 or 700.

These markings are the same ones listed in the FMCSR. I don't know if this is just one big ol' can of worms I'm opening up here or what. I just cant let things like this go without understanding it 100%.
