When it gets slow? More like all the time in certain markets served by the worst of the TQL brokers. I expect it when I call them. Just like all the crap that Stevens and Linq spam the load boards with, it's something you just have to price accordingly or filter out. Like it or not, the brokers own the load boards and can pretty much do whatever they want.

The rate index thing hadn't occurred to me yet. I just added that to one of my subscriptions after a bad day shopping last week. As I suspected, it gives unrealistic numbers (cheaper than cheap) but does give you a rough idea on what to expect in an unfamiliar market. I'll probably keep the service for that reason.

I've found a lot of rate indices to always show cheaper rates but on occasion in a few places have seen some really unexpected good ones. I still don't know if I trust them entirely. The information comes from two unreliable sources imo, the brokers themselves or the trucking companies. So who knows, but, like you say at least it can maybe give one a general idea in unfamiliar places.

I have canceled 2 loads with TQL when they send me a confirmation with different city and more miles. They wouldn't come up on the rate so I said "no thanks". Then called corporate to tell them what happened and make sure my account is noted. I don't like using them but ladies in the office do so can't just burn the relationship.

You got me there. Haven't had that one come up. In every case the truth has come out over the phone, never after-the-fact on the rate sheet. Misleading posts are bad enough, that right there is just slimy.

So I have to share how I am going to eat into several brokers business.

Yesterday afternoon I got approved to broker loads for an account we have been hauling for over the past couple weeks. Because we haul for them I get a rate that is $50-$100 better than the broker rate. We are going to list the rates with only a $35-$50 broker fee.

Think of it as my way of helping brokers gain some integrity. So now when they say "I don't have that much in it" they will be telling the truth.

    Hay BBB,

My name is Scott Sutter, and I'm dba.as Sutter Transport. MC# 457265.

I follow your posts all the time and I'm so happy to see you are starting to broker loads.

I subscribe to Mymembersedge and ITS and for the last 2 months here around Baltimore,MD. the rates have been awful.

So bad in fact that I've been leaving the truck sit rather then haul for under $1.90 - $2.00.

I live and work on a farm and haul hay, http://www.floridahaynow.com/location.html
and luckily have the option to wait on fair paying freight.

    We run a 2004 International 9400i w/ 500hp Cummins ISX.
Have 6 trailers, 4, 28ft pups with dollies, a 53' X 102" Great Dane dry van and a 48' Kentucky drop deck logistics moving van.

Next month, we are acquiring a 50' Landoll 440-50 sliding axle step deck.

I have $1,000000 auto and $100,000 cargo insurance and a very good CSA.

If I can be of any service to your company, please let me know.

    Sincerely,
    Scott Sutter
