Gopher, you live in good ol' Bumpass huh?? anyhow, running out of Waynesboro you will have your pick of the litter of running out west which usually you go no further west than I-29/I-35 (unless you choose, got loads that go out too the West Coast and NW)..
Majority of the time you spend no more than 5 to 6 days running out to the Midwest, take a cheap BS load going over, most times you have to pick up another cheap BS load to get into West Iowa, SD, Minnesota, and Nebraska... and get a pretty decent paying load of Meat or Cheese coming back east.. I run out of Waynesboro and the longest i've been out on the Road since Orientation was 6 days, there was a 8 day period but only because my truck had broke down and spent a day getting that repaired..
Running up the Northeast isn't too bad, lately we've been getting these BS backhauls in my opinion to get us back into Virginia, but the worst load in the Northeast would probably be Norton (which is just south of Boston on 495) going up 95 in CT sometimes can drive you wild but all we haul up to the Northeast out of Virginia 95% of the time is Norton, Albany, Syracuse, and Jersey City which you run 78 right before you go into the Holland Tunnel.. We have Reynolds loads that go into the Bronx, Providence, Baltimore, Philly and other Northeast cities but we have guys that take that on the regular.. So our Northeast freight isn't as bas as you think, we do go onto Long Island but it isn't that bad, We mostly run upstate NY...
I usually run Northeast as most of the time i can figure out when i'm going to get home, Sometimes running the Midwest it's tricky, you can leave out on Sunday and be back home Friday, and there's times where you can leave out Monday and be back home Sunday, just tricky running the Midwest... but either way running North or West is productive.. and we also have some freight that goes to the Deep south also, Such as TX, FL, GA, LA, MS, AL, AK... but not to much, anymore questions out of Waynesboro i be more than happy to answer

Most places with those Reynolds loads i check with Cory before i leave, and if he isn't sure i'll call the receiver... Only place i've ever had an appointment time with that Reynolds was down in Temple, TX... Actually the stop in Ardmore had an Appoinment time but he said it didn't matter cause they always aren't that busy...

It kind of depends on what you mean by "west" I know a number of drivers run out of waynesboro and run to the midwest and back and that's what they do. Brian can comment on that better than I can.
Mushroom, are you out of Waynesboro, Great Bend, or Sheldon? Mushroom goes west-west all the time.
If you wanted to go west-west, I'm sure it could be arranged, but, like I said, you'd need to plan to be out for a couple of weeks and take a 34 somewhere out on the road. Our loads aren't set up to run shorter days and do rolling recaps.
Seriously, though, call the recruiting number and talk to Jeanne. She won't BS you. You'll get the answers she knows and you'll hear the truth when she's not positive or the answer depends on dispatch or whatever.Gopher88 Thanks this. -
Thanks for all the help with my qestions. Hey hawk What do you mean when you say Cheap freight what's your Idea of cheep or bs loads. What's the average pay around waynesboro and which lanes pay the best? Thanks again salenga and hawk!
-
Hawk yeah I live down the road from the post office in bumpass are you familiar with the area?
-
Gopher,
I know where Bumpass is, I live in Louisa and run out of Waynesboro. Been with the company for almost 2 years and all in all, it ain't bad. Like as has been said depending on how long you want to be out will be determined on where you want to go. I do mainly the northeast, which will test your nerves, and sometimes I go to the midwest. Give them a call and good luck.
Hey mushroom, they didn't have the appt. time wrong it was the medical marijuana man!

Welp, most of the Whitewave BS don't pay crap, usually going out to the Chicagoland area, Detroit, and other various Midwestern points don't pay pretty well... to sum it up, the best paying trips i've taken out west are the Poultry out of Edinburg, VA going to Saint James, MN.. Wine outta of Norfolk going to Princeton, MN and a Cargill Load outta of Harrisonburg, VA to Nebraska City, NE... and i've went west well quite a few times.. not alot of freight going West pays well, well at least the freight we pull.. But you will make it up coming back East as long as you end up on the Western side of I-35 in Iowa and Minnesota...
The BS loads out of the Northeast lately has been these Coca-Cola loads and Water loads even tho i was quite surprised to see 5 trucks down in Delhi today... But either way someone has to get the short end of the stick sadly when you run up North with a crappy reload back south..
But IMO the Northeast pays better especially if you can get 3 trips up North, especially with 3 trips to Albany or Norton... But the West is alot smoother and relaxing, as most of the Reloads out the North are hot coming back south as you burn your 14 up waiting to get loaded majority of the time... Out west you'll bring home between 700 - 800 starting out with about the same if you run two loads up North, but again running out West is alot smoother and relaxing but you do run the risk of waiting a day for a Tyson load coming back East....
IMO if you want the all certain for sure weekend hometime, request to run up and down the 81/95... -
and yeah i'm familiar with the area, i use to deliver car parts to a shop there not to far from the post office, all i could remember is you cross the railroad tracks and it sits on the right...

I think I would like the mid west or south runs the best what are your trucks set at speed wise tmc is 62mph
-
Hawk, I'm surprised! You've pulled wine from Norfolk to Princeton and it paid well? I did one of those loads and it was in the top 5 cheapest loads I've pulled here yet. Either the shipper was different, the shipment was different, or the rate has taken a swan dive.
And I mean cheap in the "I can't figure out how taking this load does anything but lose the company money" sense.
