If you plan to establish a company put it in the company name ex "joes trucking"
It is required for your 2290 it takes the place of your ssn for your business....go to irs.gov takes 5 min

I'm just curious, not trying to be a jerk here although in print it will most likely come off that way, but I popped ein into the Google search bar and the first site was the IRS explaining what the ein is. That took way less time than starting a thread and waiting on someone else to answer it. Why didn't you do that?

SHC and Oscar the KW Thank this.

Because everyone isn't fortycal. The time you spent answering his question with a question, you could of answered him 10 times.

Your ASSuming I didn't look at irs.gov or search the forum for an answer that I could understand or recognize as it applied to my situation prior to posting. Neither worked until some decent experienced people replied thus filling in the blanks/gaps in my knowledge and understanding of the process. Most of the time all we need is confirmation from an experienced person that we need to this or that so we know the path we need to research.

I never asked what an EIN was.

You asked "who's EIN?" as if it were a person. Your original question was so vague it was hard to know what the heck you were asking. Next time try to ask your question with more clarity. I have no clue where "everywhere" your filing? What are you filing, reciepts, car insurance, taxes???

Don't jump all over somebody because you did not take the time to ask your question intelligently.

Yes that is a problem when you try to answer or comprehend a question you have no experience with. You can plainly read that those with the experience had no problem understanding and answering the question which is still vague to you. Your lack of understanding does not necessitate me giving you anymore information on the subject as the question was targeted for a specific audience. Those that understood.

The second point you missed was that my response was about his assuming that I did not use the search feature here or google and about him missing the point of the question which was not what an EIN was.
