I figured mentioning OOIDA would stir something up with this crowd.
Its a shame we can't all just get along, but if Landstar is accepting OOIDA insurance again that'd be peachy. I got priced out on a truck worth 10X as much as the one I went with, and with all the bells and whistles tacked on I still thought it was a reasonable rate (about $5k/year with my ### covered and thensome).
If they still won't have anything to do with it, oh well, other fish in the sea, but it'd be great if I could keep with them since they've treated me so well already. Going with them for my pre-lease coverage next week either way to scoot the truck on over to Lakeland.

Brother, you've got no complaints here. I don't really know anything about it other than I had heard OOIDA and Landstar were involved in a mutual lawsuit at one time. Past that, I know nothing, and don't really care too. I couldn't tell you if they were a good insurance company or not...that's for you fellas to discuss and me to listen on.

After much thought, conversations with others, etc, I am seriously considering LS. They are sending me an application packet now. One of the many questions I have though, is that someone mentioned having a copy of the title, bill of sale and 2290 in hand. Of course I have my 2290 and bill of sale, but I purchased my truck from a private party and have 4 payments left. Until it is paid off I won't have a title in hand. Is this going to be a problem?

Can said party send a copy of the title to Landstar with a letter stating this? I wouldn't think it would be a problem if that's the case.Truck609 Thanks this.

Since I purchased my truck off of Central Refrigerated, All i had was a bill of sale and i was able to come on and get their baseplates with that. my 2290 wasn't due till Nov last year so i was good there. I have title now and still good. Just my 2 cents worth.Truck609 Thanks this.

I would check with your contact with Landstar and see what they say. Explain what you have and see if it is sufficient. If not, you need to get everything that you need together before orientation. The last thing you want is to spend several days in orientation and then not have what you need. Check to see whom you need to talk with at corporate and give them a call. Some states actually require a photo copy of the title. Others may accept a copy of the bill of sale and title application. It would be better to delay going unless you have everything that they need.LSAgentOZR and Truck609 Thank this.

Thank you all for your input. I should make it home this weekend and take a look at whatever they sent. I let my Hazmat go years ago about the time they changed things after 9/11. So my first step will be to get that ball rolling. Not sure if it will take the full 60 days they caution you about for the background check or not since my concealed weapons permit is still valid. I will at least get the app filled out and get the ball rolling well before I give my 30 days notice where I'm at now. While I'm at it, I'll get my Med card renewed early too since it will expire this Fall anyway. Hopefully by the first of May I'll be switched over there. Thanks again for all your helpful advice.

Good luck to you! Let us know what happens. We're generally a good group of folks and enjoy communicating with one another.

They do the same background check on everyone. A private contractor does the hazmat and TWIC background checks. I think it depends on where you live and how busy that particular office is when you apply. It really should only take a few minutes to do a background check, but they seem to like to drag it out. I believe that I got my TWIC background check back in less than 2 weeks. Good luck to you. -
Want to bet this gets covered.
