I would fix them both and use the Uniden and keep the 25 for a back up, or sell it. If both radios are tuned up properly, one probably won't be any better than the other as far TX/RX are concerned. I too prefer the older radios however and would likely choose the Uniden.
I can recommend a good tech if you don't mind the freight to send them to him. They will be set up right, tuned to their max potential without any stupid modifications that cause them to squeal, splatter and die an early death. You would be very pleased........let me know if you are interested.

I've been out of touch for a while trying to finish my house but I'm checking back in now. Still haven't ruled out a general lee, also been eying the superstar 121 I believe. Any thoughts on that radio?
