Does anyone have any information about the Conway and UPS hubs in Columbus, Ohio? I drive linehaul for a small company in town right now but I've been thinking about applying to these two companies. You guys/gals have supplied this thread with tons of good info and I really appreciate it. Any info would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

Depending on who you run linehaul for, you might be in a better position than coming to Conway. I know Columbus(XCO) is a huge terminal in the network. I can almost assure you that you'll see a forklift way more than a truck, but it never hurts to find a driver or a few to talk to. Yea being at the bottom of the seniority list blows especially at a terminal like columbus.

I dont know about UPS, but just find some drivers to talk to and get a few opinions. Attitudes will vary.

Thanks for the info CC. I don't mind starting at the bottom and working my way up as it's to be expected. As long as their is a light at the end of the tunnel with decent pay and benefits i'm ok with it. At my current job the account is closing so all drivers on this account are going to bet let go soon.

Some UPS hubs have gone to an hours/miles contract for feeders... Atlanta is one. I would say it's .52 cents per mile plus hours when you are out of the cab.

I worked for UPS for 5 years in feeders in WI... different local rules but no driver is making $52/hour straight time... I left in '98 and seniority pay was $22/hour.

@UPS you will love the money but do not be late even a little bit. They consider it a felony.
At Conway you are a dockworker and a road driver. A real supertrucker if you hold up.

You get used to the schedule at UPS... it just a way of life over there... and many runs have some extra time built in so you have some leeway... not much but a little. Often you'll have to take your two 12 minute beaks and your 28 minute lunch towards the end of your shift to stay on schedule... no biggie.

If ups drivers would drive faster than 55 they would not have to worry about being late. It would feel good at 55 though making 30 plus a hr.

ups only drives 55 where you are? up in NY they are as fast or faster than any freight company on the road. must be all those hills in pa, or else they got some underpowered equipment.

I doubt they do it on purpose, the faster they get the job done, the more free time they get! since their runs are on a set time, if they get done in advance, the company eats the time. so if you ae done an hour early, you get an hour break for free. So I sort of doubt they are milking it for any reason.

They run slow on purpose I know for a fact. The milage guys are always moving but the hourly guys are just cruising making that money. Might be different up your way but run the Pa or Nj pike or 95 through Baltimore down to say Richmond and you'll see what I mean. Last one I talked to said milage pay was around 60 cent a mile.
