A lot of companies I am looking at only have online aps and they all suck (the aps that is). I probably have filled out 50 so far, and one of two things invariably happens. 1. My ap goes into some netherworld black hole never to heard from again or 2. I can't even get through the ap because it crashes on step 5 of 9 or asks me to type a bunch of letters in a box that it says are wrong and won't let me go any further. Anyone else have this trouble? Are online aps just something to keep the IT guys on salary busy? I haven't heard back from one of the aps I have filled out online, yet the places I have been able to call seem to get back to me within hours. What is the deal?

Sounds like PC issues but could be companies web pages also,I never really had an issue putting in a online app.I say about 90% + trucking companies only have on line apps but some smaller mom & pop companies don't.As far not hearing from the companies you apply at,you gotta get on the phone and call, depends on the company if its a big company they may get 100's of apps a day, gotta get call them not wait around for them to call you.

O.K., so how do I call when they only have online aps? I would love to talk to a real person, but on a lot of those sites there is no number to call and the places I have taken the initiative to search out their headquarters number, they either won't let you talk to anyone or put you to voicemail that never gets returned either.

Sadly, there are probably "zillions" of apps every day. Unless yours "stands out from the rest", it is actually normal what you are going thru.

Do you include a resume` with "catch/action words"? Look it up on google for "resume` catch words, or action words".

What it is, is this. Many companies have a program in which "scans" the applications/resumes`. If you are using many of those action/catch words, the program separates your application/resume` from the others. Many times, from there, it will get a "human being".

Now as for the words you must type in, are those like scribbled or wavy??

If so, it is a security code that only a human being can type. This cuts down on spamming. You have to CAREFULLY look at each letter. Many times, it will ask you to "try again".

As for calling these companies, well, if you can "google", the you can find the phone numbers, so that IS how you call them!

I wish you well, you WILL DO FINE, just be persistent. Try and get a job (ANY truck driving job) FAST, other wise, the longer you are away from a truck??

The more likely the will MAKE YOU go back to school.:yes2557:

The apps are usually just to get your info in their system. Only time they will actually review it is by calling them.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will try those action words and see if they help. When I talk to someone they offer me a job because they can see how passionate I am and willing to bust my butt, but that seems to be hard to communicate in a resume'.
I was half joking about all the problems, but seriously, some websites look like they were designed by third graders, on crack. My wife designs websites so maybe I am just a little OCD about it.

You are right, the only problem I have had is getting past the receptionist who says go online or they just send me to HR voicemail which doesn't get returned either. To show you how passionate I am, two days ago I drove 900 miles to the headquarters of a company I REALLY want to work for just to see if I could talk to someone. They said just go online (duh) and fill out an ap or I could fill out a paper one but they would go to the same place anyway and there was no one I could talk to until after I was selected from that pile. Oh well, at least I tried.

Thanks again for the encouragement. You are totally right, and I have thought about that. I have an orientation scheduled in 2 weeks with a good company if I don't get my dream job by then. And when I say "dream" I am realistic. I mean there are jobs that I really WANT to work at that say they don't require any experience and constantly have "now hiring" on their websites, yet I never hear from them. No wonder there is a driver "shortage". Maybe once I prove myself for a couple years some more doors will open.

I never have that problem.Sounds like it's your computer. You can always call the company you're interested in and they'll be more then happy to fax you an application.

I suggest filling out 1 application that goes to many companies then they'll call you along with many emails.

You don't. That's the reason they use the online app system. Its because they don't want to talk to you or anyone else until their system has looked at you and verified that you have whatever it is they're looking for and has also verified that you don't have whatever it is they classify as a dis-qualifier.

You could have all the passion in the world, but if you don't have the level of experience they're looking for, they're not going to hire you so they don't want to waste time talking to you.

How much experience do you have? How recent is it? Do you have any felony convictions, tickets, accidents, DUI's that sort of thing? Have you had an excessive number of jobs in the past two years? The answers to those questions might explain why you aren't getting many responses.

As for your resume, if you feel its not adequately conveying how valuable of an employee you can be, consider having someone rework it for you.
