Is this a decent offer for long haul?

    Hey,

    I have received an offer from a pretty big Canadian Trucking Company but I am not sure if it is a good offer or not. It's long haul into the US (Eastern Seaboard) starting from the Toronto area. Home weekends, avg. 2200 miles/week, avg. $1000/week. Some bonuses and benefits.

    Is this a good offer?

    So how long are they going to guarantee this freight? A lot of promises are just that... proven recruiter BS.

    Ask them to specify the details; rate per mile, stop pay, detention, congestion, cost of insurance, dental, disability benefits.

    Ask about tolls, scales, lumpers, etc. You dont want to have to shell out cash every trip to cover the tolls. They should have an ez pass transponder on the truck to pay for the tolls and bridges.

    .45 cpm or higher is a fair starting wage for North East running.

    running eastern us you need to have a good bonus' and all detention pay at a decent rate. I ran a lot out of welland for a company there making 52 cpm with extra paid crossing to the US. Paid layovers, extra for crossin into NY city. but east ocast can be a really slow run. Lots of traffic etc.

    Thanks all for the advise/info. I have all the details about the bonuses and benefits and the pay, I sort of just gave a quick overview in my post.
    casc1 - why do you want to know the company? Are you interested? :)

    Get the mile rate, extra stop pay, any bonuses, etc before committing to "average numbers". Just don't work for a "salary" for anybody. A guaranteed minimum is OK, but not a fixed gross for a [perhaps wildly] fluctuating performance requirment.

    $1000 a week plus benefits is what a good local/city driver in Toronto makes. You're going to run the highway, be gone over night, maybe all week, buy meals and pay for showers for the same money.

    Tell your future employer to pound sand, the job's worth MORE!

    Nope, have a local gig 28 p/hr, don't need no otr.....just if I knew that carrier sucked you could get the warnings before getting to deep into it.
