You could give your two notice and get hired by SNI they provide sleep study at no cost and provide you with a sleep apena machine if you need one. But if your diagnose with sleep apana then good luck getting more than a 1 year card and then there the whole compliance issue with it too depending on the company you work for.

The whole BMI thing is a joke. The doctor that gave me my card last time way bigger than me and the last dot cop that pulled me over could barley get out of his car never minded under my truck. They keep this bs up there will be nobody driving trucks, then what are they gonna do.

This is one that I'm real concerned with too. According to the BMI I'm still a fat slob at, 5'8" and 180#. Yep, I want to get within the BMI, weighing only 160# and probably be sick, and can't do much. Skin and bones, now that's a healthy way to be...:biggrin_25512:

    It may be a joke,

but after losing weight and reducing my BMI,

I no longer need diabetic meds or show signs of sleep apnea !!!!

Especially for us middle-aged+ folks !!!!

Anyone that is "overweight" and reduces their BMI is going to see health benefits long or short term. Period. That doesn't mean BMI is a measure of health or fitness. Michael Jordan, Shaq and a whole ton more are considered morbidly obese by the BMI scale. Losing weight, even if it is regained has been proven to help the kidneys function properly also. This is why most doctors require people to lose 10-12lbs on their own before gastric bypass.

I am a big ole fat guy but my BP is on track, so is my cholesterol and I can still run around the block and touch my toes. As far as I can tell I perform my work duties just as well as a 150# guy does. Maybe even better or do you think me getting promotions in the company are reverse discrimination?! LOL

Anyways I must have missed in the reading somewhere that it said they are going to require people to be physically fit to drive truck....I do however see where it says MEDICALLY FIT, two way different things in my book.

The closest I can find to "current" requirements is in block 7 of the medical form.

    Physical Exam General Appearance:
    "Marked overweight"

    What's "marked" overweight?

While research data indicate that a driver’s body mass index (BMI) is a risk factor for identifying drivers that
may have sleep apnea, neither FMCSA nor the CSA program currently has any rules that restrict who can be a
commercial motor vehicle driver based on BMI or weight or neck size
    .
