Bologna I went flatbed with out ever going to school in 1978 34 years of practice is a lot better than six weeks of school in my humble opinion. And yes I am still learning.

Do you get paid enough extra to make driving flatbed worth while?? Im going to swift march 12 to start my career. I like being active anyway, but wondering if it would be a smart idea right off the bat...

you could try some of the bigger construction companies or equipment specialists if you had an interest in making some more money outside of the truck aka a laborer position. could be a long shot suggestion though.

Spacetrucker88, the point of your comment eludes me. It is not the fault of new drivers that they have to go to a school. The "old school" approach where your uncle, dad, grandpa, older brother, or whatever just threw you in a truck and beat you with his cane when you missed a gear don't work these days. Insurance companies and govt regs have stopped that. Deal with it and quit blaming newbies who have no choice in the matter. Most new guys want to get started in trucking for the same reason you did 34 years ago, and I did 19 years ago. Just the route to being a trained solo driver has changed.

This brought back memories of my buddy Dave who taught me how to drive, except it was a rolled up newspaper:biggrin_2559:
To say he was strict was an understatement but it was his rig and his rules, so I took it with a laugh.
I rarely blame the "newbie" myself, but I DO blame either the idiot that taught him or the company that thinks that 6 months experience makes you a "trainer"

Boyd Bros. will take rookies. Must be 23 years old and you'll have to go with a road trainer for a few weeks. You'll also have to do a week of load securement at the yard.
Since your already in Ohio, you'll go the yard in Cincinnati. (North side of the city. Evendale OH)
