ok, so this post is for the technologically ignorant...... much like me....
so, I heard you could get a phone that makes your laptop work too.... you can.
I just bought a Samsung 4G Droid at Walmart yesterday for 1 cent (with a penny that I found on the floor)
The sales lady was so cool (Tamika at the Walmart just down the street from the Millis yard in Albany) and she hooked me up to FoxFi and now I am currently running my laptop on it
Cost?? $89 total for 450 minutes of talk and text and 2G of internet use (whatever that amounts to....)
so, anywhere Verizon is (which is practically everywhere) I have phone and laptop.
The beeech at the Verion store tried to make me buy their $20 a month hot spot plan, but I knew it was BS so I went to Walmart and got what I needed for free
can you hear me now???

I myself just got a smartphone little overwhelming at first but very handy. Be careful on some of the apps u download and games can freeze ur phone up and become glitchy if it does just uninstall the game or app i havent went over the gs yet but am very wary of using it too much

Yes your can tether your phone to your laptop, and use it for internet access. If you read your contract its not allowed, unless you buy the hotspot plan. If you don't want to buy the hotspot plan but still want to, realize if they find out they will charge your for it. PdaNet is what I use and have no problems. They have a free and paid for version, you can find it on the android market, and the paid version just google PdaNet. The free version doesn't allow you to use secure sites after 30 days.

Dont be surprised when you get a $400 phone bill, lol. They do monitor bandwidth useage.
-
be sure to mind your usage. You SHOULD get a warning when you use 50% of your allowed monthly data and then again when you use 75% 90% and 95%. I haven't gone that high in a while.
I have an iPhone with Verizon with the 4GB data plan for tethering. So my laptop tethering and data on the phone combined are allowed to 4GB before a $10 per GB upcharge. -
Bear and Smaggs are correct - dont be suprised if you get a huge bill. I also have an iphone and teather off that for a monthly charge.
Note - all t/s (the major ones) have wifi you can use also! -
uh oh..... ummmm, well I really only use the internet for news and e-mail (and truckers report) sooooooo, maybe they won't notice. Ya think??
-
It depends on the age of your plan. I have the "old" plan that is truly "unlimited". They can whine and moan all they want, but can't do much else.
-
Dip if it sounds too good to be true well you know the old saying lol

awesome......really awesome
well, I reckon we'll all find out shortly....... me when and if I get the bill and you guys when I whine about it.....
