I don't feel the challenges a woman trucker faces is any different then the challenges that a woman faces every day. Deal with the jerks and have a good eye for safety issues. that's every day for women, men don't understand that sometimes.... others just don't care

As far as refer loads go I am working for a company that hauls produce out of California. If the load has to be hand loaded, or unloaded, it is done by company paid lumpers. My wife is just now finishing up at Cape fear community college truck driving school, and will be comming on as my co-driver. I will be her traiiner. She is very excited about the whole deal. I applaud women who go into this proffession. There are male as well as female's who should not be truck drivers. Good luck canineboss, if you are determined, you will do well.

The only issue I see for now, the dog.

That's a non starter during the training phase. The dog will have to stay somewhere else.

I was going to do the samething that you and your wife are doing. Get my CDL and to team driving with my husband after he got his A. However my husband thinks this is a bad idea because I don't have so great of eyes so I'm going into nursing instead LOL.

Hope I don't have to go to the hospital in Michigan.....Just kidding. My wife and I have raised 2 family's(Kids, and Grandkids)This will be our way to spend some time together, see the country, and make a little money.
Our goal is to give this a try, and possibly buy our own truck in about 5 to 6 months. I say drive someone else's truck first to see if we are going to be able to do this before a large investment

Yeah, we have to be a bit more careful about where we are and who is around us, but that is just an expected fact of life. One thing though... tell her to keep a company ID on her at all times. I have been harrassed by COPS who thought I was a Lot Lizzard! Even though I was dressed nicely, and my ID check came back clean!

Also of note: if you are taking the guard dog, Check on their Pet Policies.

I am sorry to report that JBHT does not allow pets.

    Good Luck!
