I always check permits, inspections, and registrations,
regardless if it's required ......... -
I'm not gonna dig it right now, but there is a regulation that says you have to show the registration upon request to any law enforcement official.
There's nothing in the PTI rules. But how else are you gonna satisfy showing it if you don't check to see if it's there or current.
It's just common sense. I always checked trailer registration and the inspection sticker. Drop and hook you have to. Those that pull the same trailers know whats going on.123456 and Onetruckpony Thank this. -
Posted same time, you found that one!

SURE, throw "common sense" into the mix!CondoCruiser Thanks this.

The pre-trip inspection is to satisfy the operator that the vehicle is in sound, working order...mechanically!
For the vehicle to be operated on a roadway...then the proper current registrations are required. Different set of rules than PTI's!GasHauler Thanks this. -
That's exactly right. There's no rule that you must inspect those records during your per-trip. These new drivers had it hard enough with all the misinformation flying around. §368.7 states you must have it. If a guy is running the same truck all year long then he or she is sure not going to check the registration everyday. That would be foolish. Of course if you drop and hook then yes you would want to check it. -
I just prefer to hook and run....
Who cares what the registration says or what's on the manifest.

See it bite more than a couple of folk. Even at a POE. That's an exciting time.
"Excuse me sir, but why do you have batteries when the papers show tires?"

I worked for one company that had copies of all of their trailers registration in each truck.
