This "slow" time of the year really sucks. What is funny is I'm at a level 1 fac. We are seeing a good amount of freight, I really believe that they do this to thin the herd. Last week I drove zero times, worked three days, and barely made 24 hours. I understand lean times but the way that management treats people during this period makes a person want to polish up their resume' .

Does your lot look like the parking lot of a flying J, with all the subservice vans and crap? Trust me I feel your pain man. I was at a class 4, working 25 hrs a week, dock only until I got sick of it. I got a transfer to another SIC in western region, and thus far I'm not doing too bad. Are you linehaul or p&D. Either way I know exactly what you're going through. Look into OD, theyre doing really good and they haul all of their own freight. Whenever I have to load a piece of freight onto a weiner or england trailer my heart bleeds a little bit. But at my old term, i didnt drive for a little over 2 months straight. Not one single run. I love the LTL stuff, but I dont know if I can put up with the bs for my longer.

Coudlnt have said it any better!! When I worked at CWF last year i started off as an apprentice where I did work everyday. Once training is over my first week I only went out twice. 2nd week not at all. Then I had an interview with my co-worker at UPSF about 45 min away. It was in front of our regional office XCV and my boss went there and saw me leaving UPSF, within 10 min i get a call from CWF to come in and work at 10. Then the next week I was put onto linehaul for 3 weeks only getting 1 or 2 days a week. Then after that is when i got official with my now Ex gf so i was out "sick" for a week being since I just wanted to be with her and not do part-time dock work, but did have a drs note due to a visit so they didnt question it. After that I worked every single day P/D and was loving every second of it... then one week my boss decided he was taking the 3 lowest flex guys and making us all work only dock outbound because he didnt wanna pay his other drivers overtime, so right after that i quit because I didnt apply to be a part-time dock worker making 120 dollars a week.
I agree though that since con-way has all these extra drivers they should haul their own freight. Its stupid having these low paying companies take their freight. At YRC i believe we haul all of our own freight, every time ive been to the yard I havent seen a sub-service truck yet. Whats nice about YRC once you clock in your automatically payed for 8 hours, so if you finish early you go home with full pay. Not sure how OD is since i dont know anyone there but ABF is good and UPSF from what ive heard can be shady
